The Mother's Mistake: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller audiobook cover art

I'll be honest - when I purchased this title, it was mostly because I saw the "not for the faint of heart" review, and it got my attention. (Turn me upside-down and call me twisted.)

It really is a great listen; the narrator is great, the storyline is interesting, and I actually wanted to finish it.

This review is more for those weirdos like me who are in search of a, "Wow. Ew.....no. NO. NOOO. I can't believe this author really went there. NO....okay, I'm in." type of book. This isn't that book.

Now, if you ARE one of those faint of hearts who like a thrill - get it. It's a great listen. (And nothing that you couldn't listen to in front of your grandma.)

I really enjoyed this book. The story overall was very interesting and different, but it was really the narrator who made this book come to life. It wasn't too dark (in my opinion). And although it was a bit predictable to me, that didn't take away from the story at all. Definitely worth reading, I recommend it!

This book needs to be a movie. It was the perfect combination of science fiction, paranormal, suspense, and romance. This author absolutely blew me away. I don't think I've ever been so engulfed in a novel before. I was on the edge of my seat - crying, laughing, scared out of my mind - the ENTIRE time. Not to mention, the narrator was absolutely perfect. Please get this book. You will not regret it.

This book wasn't anything special. It was one of those books that you keep reading/listening to because you're waiting for something significant to happen. Then, when the "climax" finally comes, you're just sitting there thinking, "that was it?" That's how I felt, at least. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't a book I'd recommend.

I'm not usually a huge fan of police procedural mysteries, but I loved this one. It was twisted, suspenseful, and intriguing. The kind of book that keeps you up far past your bedtime, just because you can't find a spot you're willing to stop at. It's graphic, but if you could handle watching the movie Seven (and appreciate that type of imagery,) then you will love this book.

I truly enjoyed this book. It was captivating and, although it wasn't a nail-biting thriller the entire way through, it definitely had some twists and turns that weren't easy to see coming. This book was suspenseful, sad, witty, and heartfelt. There were times when the narrator sounded somewhat robotic, but it was hardly noticeable and didn't take away from the story. Overall, it was a great listen and I would definitely recommend it.

I don't usually have any problems finishing an audiobook, even if I think it's terrible. However, I am finding it extremely difficult to continue listening to this one. I honestly can't tell if the storyline is just that boring, or if it is the narrator making it seem this way. The narrator has such a conspiratorial/patronizing (almost trying to be seductive) way of speaking - like every single sentence she is saying has some other meaning or like she knows something that you don't. This isn't the first book I have listened to with this narrator. The first few books I listened to with her as a narrator didn't bother me, (although her "man" voice is always the same and it makes me feel uneasy for some reason) but I don't know how much more I can take of this book. It's one of those books that make you stop and think, "Wait. Where is she? Let me see how much more of this book I have left..."

That being said, I WILL finish this book and I will update this if I feel any differently once I have completed it. I'm hoping it picks up soon. I just had to vent.

I loved the first book, and I honestly was unsure how this one could top it, but it did! I fell in love with the characters even more than I was before. I hardly ever laugh out loud when listening to books, let alone cry, but I did. Several times. Loved this book!

Not a great choice if you like books that make you think or have you guessing the whole time. Many times throughout the book, I found myself checking the amount of time remaining. Which I never do. It just seemed drawn out and not even interesting. I would not recommend this book if you are looking for something with twists and suspense.

Such a great book. Great plot development, intriguing story. I don't want to ruin anything, because I think it is definitely worth the read, but I was frustrated at the ending. However, I was not "depressed" after reading this book. Personally, I like dark novels. This book was dark, but I would not describe it as excessively twisted or vulgar. Definitely a great read if you like past/present storylines and unexpected twists.
