No one remembers how the Divide was created. The miles-deep and miles-wide chasm has existed for hundreds of years, protecting what remains of humanity from the Golyat: a creature whose shadow moves across the horizon at sunset.

A fun, if sightly formulaic adventure that seems a tad familiar in places and requires a BIG grain of salt for some things to still work after 500 years, but the performance is really good and sometimes you just want a Robinson yarn.

As always, RC Bray does a remarkable job- he's the very definition of a great audio performer.

When the book ended, I was kinda shocked. Some VERY big loose ends and questions as to motive are not resolved. The killer is pretty obvious and the police are VERY sloppy. Characters that seem interesting or with potential are introduced and discarded...It read like it was maybe the fourth or fifth book in a series...but it wasn't.

The performances were great- nothing to complain about there.

In the rugged landscape of Eastern Oregon, a young scientist named June uncovers an exquisite artifact - a 300-year-old mechanical doll whose existence seems to validate her obsession with a harrowing story she was told by her grandfather many years earlier. The mechanical doll, June believes, is proof of a living race of automatons that walk undetected among us to this day. Ingeniously hidden inside the ancient doll is a lost message, addressed to the court of Peter the Great, czar of Russia.

DEFINITELY a fun and interesting concept. the novel's pacing and structure is quick and nicely done and the twin performances were great (particularly Piotr's role).
My only critique is that the end is a bit abrupt and I wish we'd seen more characterization and backstory on the other characters ...prahaps in a sequel? I'd buy a second book.
