The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Small Great Things returns with a powerful and provocative new novel about ordinary lives that intersect during a heart-stopping crisis. The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center - a women’s reproductive health services clinic. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage. After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter. Then he finds out that his 15-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic.

I would never have chosen this book for myself. It was selected in a book club I am a part of. The topic is too charged for my passive reading enjoyment. I don't necessarily affiliate with pro-life or pro-choice sides. I appreciate the way the author didn't push either direction within the story.
with that being said, this book was excellent. The delivery was great. the story was wonderful. it was obvious that the author took time to research and develop each plot line.
make sure to listen to the author's narrative at the end. it was enlightening

Fifteen-year-old Ellie Mack was the perfect daughter. She was beloved by her parents, friends, and teachers. She and her boyfriend made a teenage golden couple. Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Great story!!
The twists kept coming. There is so much I didnt see coming. I really enjoyed the pace of the book. there wasn't too much information, like some thrillers I read lately. A few times I realized that the author dropped a little piece of something, but used it later in the story line.
my only complaint it the first narrator. Her voice was a little robotic. But after a while, I didn't notice it as much.

Kim Lord is an avant garde figure, feminist icon, and agent provocateur in the LA art scene. Her groundbreaking new exhibition, Still Lives, is comprised of self-portraits depicting herself as famous murdered women - the Black Dahlia, Chandra Levy, Nicole Brown Simpson, among many others - and the works are as compelling as they are disturbing, implicating a culture that is too accustomed to violence against women.

The story itself was good. I enjoyed some La references. Unfortunately, there was so much extra, it was a distraction. The book would have been many chapters shorter if the author had left out all the unnecessary details.

But Ani FaNelli is an invention, that veneer of perfection carefully assembled in an attempt to distance herself from a shocking, sordid past.

Great book! Its easy to believe and unfortunately too realistic.
It's a tad long. I thought it was finished more than once, only to look down and see there were still more chapters. It will keep you guessing "what else can happen".
