In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Would you listen to Divergent again? Why?

yes my kids have listened several times , they enjoy the story

Which character – as performed by Emma Galvin – was your favorite?

Tris or Four are favourite characters, it is a toss up. They are both memorable in their own way.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

What would you choose?

Any additional comments?

Great listen. highly recommend if you have teens who like to listen in the car with you, we were all able to enjoy this with the exception of one borderline inappropriate scene.

The litte dog Max was the most memorable charcter, his quirks and fears and eccentricities so true to life.

I see why this is a best seller, its one of those books you finish and you are a different person for reading it. I even look at a trip to the grocery store differently now.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Thi sis my first book by this author and I could not turn off my ipod. The story was compelling and interesting and the narration was excellent. A great historical look at bi-racial and master slave relationships during pre and post civil war. I feel like I know this family and look forward to more books by the same author.
