Kat Dubois is immortal, and she's retired. She's long since hung up her sword and left assassinating immortals to someone else...anyone else. She's now a hard drinking, sass-flinging Seattle tattoo artist with the innate ability to read people's fortunes using her charmed deck of tarot cards. Her days of bloodshed are over, and she has nothing but time - an eternity, in fact - to hide from her past. Until someone from her past shows up on her doorstep with news that her beloved older brother and mentor, Dominic, has gone missing.

I think the producers need to find a reader with a more mature voice. A 26 year old kick ass heroine shouldn't sound like a 12 year old boy. I

I love the series and plan to read it until a better reader is found. Great series, Shannon.

Homicide detective Kara Gillian has a special talent: she can sense the "arcane" in our world, and there's quite a bit of it, even in Beaulac, Louisiana. She's also a summoner of demons, and works on a task force that deals with supernatural crimes. Her partners are attractive and smart FBI agents, but they're not summoners, and they're not telling Kara why they are on this special force with her.

What made the experience of listening to Secrets of the Demon the most enjoyable?

The reader is excellent, the plot is excellent and fast moving. The characters are colorful and well defined.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course the main character, Kara - but I love her feisty aunt and sidekick Jill.

Have you listened to any of Liv Anderson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to her before, but would certainly recommend her and buy other books read by her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really one particular scene or moment - the entire book and series in general are well worth my listening time.

Any additional comments?

I love the author, love the series, love the reader and everything about it! I will certainly try any books authored by Diana!

Would you try another book from Annie Bellet and/or Christine Padovan?

I felt the story and plot were good, so I would be interested in more by Annie Bellet. On the other hand, the reader was a total turn off for me and totally aggravating.

Would you be willing to try another one of Christine Padovan’s performances?

I felt that her mispronunciation, and off pauses - sometime even sing-song tone took away from the book itself.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I really did like the characters and the action.

Would you try another book from Gena Showalter and/or Justine Eyre?

I've listened to books read by Justine Eyre and , while overly sultry, she is a good reader and I like listening to her. I would not buy another book by Gena Showalter if this is an example of her writing just because I expected to be reading a modern detective story, not a sexual fantasy.

Would you ever listen to anything by Gena Showalter again?

No, I do not think I wold be interested in listening to her writing again, mostly because I prefer less sexually explicit books. I would not have tried this one if it had been designated as a paranormal romance. Calling it a "Mystery thriller>Modern detective" is true only in the most general sense. I like a good mystery, but get aggravated when sexual scenes get in the way of a plot.

Which scene was your favorite?

I didn't really have a favorite. The intrigue part of the plot was far too obvious.

Do you think Awaken Me Darkly needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

For the reader who likes a decently written paranormal / SiFi romance, this is probably a good read or listen. It just was not what I expected, and therefore, the classification is misleading. A follow-up would be most welcome to the reader who likes a romantic genre, since the characters were interesting, if a bit conflicted. The author leaves the door open for more development when she obviously lets Atlanta and Dare walk away.....don't you know they're coming back!

Any additional comments?

I think someone should re-classify this book. It was hardly a thriller.

Would you listen to My Life as a White Trash Zombie again? Why?

I wouldn't mind listening to this book again, but honestly, I'm more interested in getting the next book in the series to listen to. It was engrossing, well written and excellently performed.

What did you like best about this story?

The intrigue element of the story was not spoon fed to the reader/listener. Well planted and subtle hints led me through a surprisingly good plot.

What about Allison McLemore’s performance did you like?

Her voice differentials were clear, and I had no trouble following the characters in dialogue.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I like drawing out my listening pleasure, but I only lasted two days of suspense.

Any additional comments?

For quite a while, the title and cover drawing turned me off, and I finally tried it on the basis of the inexpensive first of series deal. When I noticed that there were several books to the series, I decided it might have more to offer than the cover would indicate. I'm glad I tried it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I bought this book expecting it to be a predictable fluff listen to pass the time. I was totally impressed with the story line and the depth of plot.Yes, it is based on a fairy tale; poor socially abused girl meets prince, but there is no happily ever after here! This book is a great lead into the world of Lunar . Eventually, producers will realize that it takes an exceptional female reader to do male voices. They should pay guys to do guys. While the reader is good, she, like many others just doesn't do justice to the male character. That little problem not withstanding, I will buy the next book and expect to find great enjoyment in it.

What did you like best about this story?

The very fresh and unexpected twist to the fairy tale plot.

Which scene was your favorite?

The first meeting of the Prince and Cinder.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually wanted to draw out the listen to extend the suspense.

Any additional comments?

Not your every day tale!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would love to know my friends can have hours of enjoyment listening to this trip into Victorian fantasy.

What other book might you compare Lady of Devices: A Steampunk Adventure Novel to and why?

Fans of Amanda Quick, Julia Quinn or Betina Krahn will love this genre of spunky heroine verses every obstacle of English society. Listening to the books read in an English accent made the experience all the more realistic.

Which scene was your favorite?

I particularly enjoyed those scenes where she battles with ingrained strictures of her society and rises to individuality.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did!

Any additional comments?

The reader was superb so that I bought the next two books before I finished the first. Thanks, Audible, for offering the "Hidden Gems" sale. I may not have tried this series otherwise without your recommendation.
