Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country - and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows.

Any additional comments?

I loved the book and I cannot wait for the next one! That said, I had a really hard time with the additional narrators, especially after Amanda Dolan did such a great job creating unique voices for each character. While I can see how adding the additional narrators may have been beneficial for the writing style of this book, their voices did not match their characters to the point of distraction. How do you have a middle aged woman voicing the part of a character who is supposed to be a younger adolescent than Mare Barrow, especially when Dolan's voice easily passes for a younger character? I'm hoping that the series will return to a single narrator, though this certainly will not stop me from reading the next book.

Maintaining the appearance of harmless eccentrics is not always within their power - especially given their propensity for causing loud explosions when things get too quiet. Meet the disaster-magnets of St Mary's Institute of Historical Research as they ricochet around History.

I enjoyed the story. it's fast-paced so you really need to focus or you miss something important. I liked the narration, but wish she had done a better job making the character's voices sounds a little more distinct. there were some parts of back and forth dialogue where I had no idea which character was speaking. other than that, I did enjoy the book and would read a sequel

The book moves so very slowly. I gave it ample time to pick up, but this was one seriously boring book. I gave up.

Kiernan Dunne abandoned his family ties to help Kate fight the Cyrists, and he's never regretted that for one moment. But he doesn't understand why Kate can't remember that night in 1893 Chicago, when she turned back to face the killer chasing them through the smoky corridors of the World's Fair Hotel. Kate placed the CHRONOS key around his neck and made his eight-year-old self promise to wear it always, and that's a promise Kiernan has never broken.

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

Four hundred years in the future, the Earth has turned primitive following a nuclear fire that has laid waste to civilization and nature. Though the radiation fallout has ended, for some unknowable reason every person is born with a twin. Of each pair, one is an Alpha, physically perfect in every way, and the other an Omega, burdened with deformity, small or large. With the Council ruling an apartheid-like society, Omegas are branded and ostracized while the Alphas have gathered the world's sparse resources for themselves.
