This book was excellent. The narrator did a nice job!! It’s an emotional roller coaster in that I found myself laughing out loud one minute and wanting to cry for her the next.

I loved this book! It was quite disturbing at times, but I couldn’t stop listening. The story was excellent. However, the narrator was bad. The accents and voice changes got progressively worse later in the book. There were also a few times the same lines were repeated.

I am from the Eastern Shore about 45 minutes from where these fires took place. The author's account is accurate and well-written! However, the audible version is terrible. The narrator sounds like a robot or Siri, and it is very hard to get used to!! Why the author selected a narrator this bad is hard for me to grasp?? Read the book because the narrator mispronounces towns and other local points of reference which I found annoying. It is well written, and worth the read!!

The narrators were excellent. Because of the narration, I enjoyed listening. However, I found 'Kitchen House' to be much more believable and captivating. The storyline seemed rushed at times and way too coincidental. I also thought there were lots of inconsistencies. For example, the way James describes his childhood in this book was NOT the way it happened in 'Kitchen House'. He says throughout the book that his grandmother raised him when in actuality she was heavily medicated and slept all the time. The storylines should have been consistent but were not. I really, really wanted to love this book:(
