I’ve been listening to audible since (gulp) 2007! This novel is the best one I’ve listened to since Pillars of the Earth. The writing by John Boyne reminds me of the great Irish authors with his exquisite sense of storytelling. His humor mixed with the tinge of pain that hurts but seems to help ease those difficult memories at the same time is a true talent. Boyne brought me back to my childhood, listening to my parents, my aunts and uncles - all from Dublin - and our family’s Irish friends with their colorful language and lovely sayings. God, I miss them. The narrator was brilliant switching back and forth between the culchie accent and the Dublin jackeen. The worst part of this book- it ended.

Fairly entertaining but some of the writing was just too corny! Maybe one more cliche would help! Lol

Just plain average...actually just not good.

What would have made Sweet Forgiveness better?

Character development, less unpredictability, better narrator.

What could Lori Nelson Spielman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Personally - I think it was poorly written - some clever lines but honestly, the writing was transparent and predictable.

How could the performance have been better?

Narrator was a bit flat.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sweet Forgiveness?

The scene in the bar when she slips on the ice.

Any additional comments?

nope

Good Book - TERRIBLE audio!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I cannot wait to ask Audible to give me my credit back. This recording is truly horrible! Read the book, watch the film or better yet...RERECORD the audio. Plus, the abridged version of the story lack serious continuity. What a shame.

What did you like best about this story?

Ireland

How could the performance have been better?

record it in this century!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

really?

So, the interviewer (the boy) goes "down to the corner bar where his car was parked" and then Audible goes to the music and says I hope you have enjoyed this audiobook ????? Wha??!! I have listened to audiobooks for several years now and abridged ones on many occasions but this one is ridiculous! Where is the ending??? The attempt to shorten the book is alright considering they wanted to do so but what the heck??? There is no ending! Audible...you messed this one up! And why is the unabridged version NOT available?? Thanks but no thanks..I want my credit back!

I listened to this story after my 4th grade daughter reccomended it to me! They read it in class and I listened while doing my usual stuff. It was so amazing, gripping, sad, exciting and truly visual that I would have to stop what I was doing just to stare at my laptop! Peter Coyote is a brilliant narrator/actor and I want to hear more of his narrations now. Thank you to author Paulson for a great story. Can't wait to hear THE RIVER.
