It seems that some people are born to achieve anything they want. Some would say they are lucky, are blessed, or have the Midas touch. But what truly is the reason for their success? New York Times best selling author John C. Maxwell has the answer: The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure.

This is the Abridged version and the editing isn't amazing. Would have liked to get the full version. Great message and philosophy!

In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

I didn't know Anthony had a first book and bought this when it was on sale. There's a lot of reference to his first book which I'm sure makes total sense if you've read it, but I haven't (yet).

I love Mr. Bourdain. His give no sh*ts attitude is right on! This book feels like a mix of stories from different parts of his life and a lot of talk of cooks and chefs and TV hosts I've never heard of. I got bored during that, but plugged along and moved on with him to the next thing. There are some gems in here and if you're a fan it's worth a listen, when it's on sale.

This is a heavy listen. I often found myself having to stop to collect my thoughts and wipe away tears. I would walk around with headphones on and hoping nobody could see me crying. Truly a moving story and lesson for all. Thank you Levi for having the courage to share something so personal with us.

In the mid-70s, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981 he quit forever. Born Standing Up is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and why I walked away".

I've been a fan of Steve since I was a kid, first being introduced to him through him films and not knowing much about his life or stand up career. There were so many surprises I had no idea about, it makes me want to watch his movies/stand up again now understanding how hard he worked to get there.
