She is transported to a Stateroom on this River Boat that belongs to a Gambler named Zachary. Before she knows what is happening, they are discovered together and he has to claim marriage to Gillian to save his reputation. She goes along with it due to the fact that she had been dropped into a world she knows nothing about. The year is 1625 and the fate of Scotland depends on a prophecy concerning three girls. This story is about Glenna who is raised as a slave in a cruelly ran household. As she grows into a young woman, her hopes for a descent life are not good. Then she is surprised in the stables by a Druid that no one else can see. The Druid takes pity on the young girl and helps her escape her enslaved situation. But the Druid also senses a power in young Glenna, and he hopes to help her devote that power to Good and not Evil. A good listen with very strong characters. The Narrator did a fine job. Her voice takes a few minutes to get used to but then it starts to grow on you. In ancient Rome, a woman flees for her life. Hidden beneath her blue cloak are secrets men will kill for - forgeries that prove the newly self-appointed bishops are pretenders who will stop at nothing to shape this new religion to their own ends. Two thousand years later, classical archaeologists Valentina Vella and Erika Simone stumble across an ancient parchment buried deep in the Vatican archives. To reveal Julia's legacy will put them in the crosshairs of a venomous Vatican battle for power and supremacy; to stay silent would make them complicit in an ancient heresy.

I really enjoyed this Audio book because it was a different take on magic and how to control magic. In this tale, the Mage has an habbit of loosing control of their magic and destroying whole cities and multiple lives. To control the Mage, they can be tethered much like someone would tether a hawk or falcon. This is done with a magical tether that is placed around the wrist of the Mage. The story gets interesting when the daughter of a very high ranking noble tethers a very dangerous fire mage to save the city from burning to the ground.
A very well written and narrated story. Solid 4 stars!
