Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue - definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband...until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch.

Stand alone, the book was good and the performance excellent but I'm finding the books in this series all have the same basic story line. There are enough differences that it was still entertaining but there were no surprises. I may not have noticed had I listened to them months apart (as they were written) but I bought and listened to them back to back.

I did not give the book a 5 star rating because the herioine did not show as much pluck as she portrayed in the preceding book and there was not much of Sand's usual prevailing humor.

Sands writes sex scenes well and has a tendency to over do erotica in her romance novels, as do many authors. This book had too much discriptive sex so I fast forwarded a lot. I kind of figure one or two good sex scenes, with more implied sex than detail is better than hours/pages of steamy sex. In my opinion, once the intial sexual rapport is achieved, repeated drawnout sex scenes are fillers and indicate lazy writing.

All said and done, I recommend this as a good read.

This book surprised me when it picked up 20 years later. Though I am not fond of the scheming other woman stories, this one was well written and sets up the next book for my favorite character in this one. I really liked the personality Keiran Elliott adds to the characters with his performance. Rushing to get the next in the series.

Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

If the long pauses and background buzz don’t give it away, the narration (though well done) lets the listeners know this was obviously produced from an old audio tape from back in the day when they narrated instead of performing. All that aside the story was awesome and left me rushing to listen to the next book of the series. Unlike some 1st books of a series, Sands provides an above average set of rules and biology that will firmly blow all preconceived notions about vampires into the stratosphere. This books sets a solid foundation for this amazingly successful series and is a must read for your intro to the Argeneau Family. I highly recommend you read it first.

This was a great series. Each story had a unique plot. All characters were likable and interesting. One thing that didn’t mesh was keeping the relics on their person. It made it too easy for the bad guys to get their hands on them. I think I would have hid mine, not carried it on me. I hope McGoldrick’s KEEPER finds new recipients and writes more stories in this series. Maybe with additional relics. Saskia was the perfect performer and I will look for more of her work. I recommend this series and am looking for more from this author.

Would you listen to Much Ado About Highlanders again? Why?

Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

It was hard to chose my favorite character. I loved them all. The only characters that were not likeable were the villains.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I listened to this book in 2 sittings because there were not enough hours in my day to finish it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

The whole book was wonderful. The performance by Saskia outstanding. I immediately went to Audible and downloaded the next two books in the series.

He had been horrible enough to Christiana during their short marriage, and she was not going to allow the traditional period of mourning to ruin her sisters' debuts as well. So she decides to put him on ice and go on as if nothing's happened.... Until the real earl appears.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The counterfeit husband

Any additional comments?

I laughed out loud a few times and this had a refreshing story line. It was a light read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I read the first book and could not get past her being a child when he noticed her. It just plain creeped me out. Duerden gave a fine performance but nothing could save this book. I don't recommend it.
