Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

This author had written some other books I absolutely loved (traci crosswhite series) and I thought I’d give this one a chance! So incredibly glad I did because it has changed my life and view on life! Thanks Robert Dugoni for writing such amazing books!

Wannabe actress Dani Steele's résumé resembles a cautionary tale on how not to be famous. She's pushing thirty and stuck in a dead-end insurance job, and her relationship status is holding at uncommitted. With unbearably perfect sisters and a mother who won't let her forget it, Dani has two go-tos for consolation: maple scones and a blog in which she pours her heart out to her celebrity idol. He's the man her father never was, no boyfriend will ever be - and not so impossible a dream as one might think.

This is not a book I would usually pick up but I have A book club at work and it was suggested. Really good book, great plot, and extremely relatable. I have told many friends and family to read it.

I read this thinking it was going to follow up The Devil’s Daughter. It doesn’t. It is a good story but shouldn’t be titled as a sequel to it.

After getting to a few chapters to the end of the book I decided to read the reviews. I saw a negative one and I have to disagree with them. I have to say this book was very well written. The author did a great job keeping the reader on their toes throughout the entire book. I felt like I was always waiting for the next scream scene. It didn’t get super deep into different characters in order to keep you anticipating what was coming next. I’m really hoping she will write another book!

A male should have read this book instead of a female. Most of the book is seen through Callum’s eyes not Lyla’s. Even as a narrator it should have been male. I wanted to desperately like this book but with the voices it was very hard to follow and understand.
