Her mother abandoned her when she was nine, sending her periodic postcards, but never returning to reclaim her daughter. Seven years after the postcards stop coming, Martha Revere is declared legally dead, with no sign of what may have happened to her. Until now. With a single clue - that her mother’s car disappeared 16 years ago in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay - Max drops everything to finally seek the truth.

Rye Mallett, a fearless "freight dog" pilot charged with flying cargo to far-flung locations, is often rough-spoken and all business, but soft on regulations when they get in the way of meeting a deadline. But he does have a rock-solid reputation: He will fly in the foulest weather, day or night, and deliver the goods safely to their destination. So when Rye is asked to fly into a completely fogbound northern Georgia town and deliver a mysterious black box to a Dr. Lambert, he doesn't ask questions.

What is to be done with Mary Bennet? She possesses neither the beauty of her eldest sister, Jane, nor the high-spirited wit of second-born Lizzy. Even compared to her frivolous younger siblings, Kitty and Lydia, Mary knows she is lacking in the ways that matter for single, not-so-well-to-do women in nineteenth-century England who must secure their futures through the finding of a husband. As her sisters wed one by one, Mary pictures herself growing old, a spinster with no estate to run or children to mind, dependent on the charity of others.

I liked parts of this book very much. I disliked parts equally as much. I think I just couldn’t accept the turn the futures, particularly of Lizzy, took in the book. The ending came quickly and rushed. And, although I think it was meant to be uplifting and triumphant I found it a bit mean-spirited and ungrateful .

In death, Didi Storm is finally getting the kind of publicity that eluded her in life. Twenty years ago, the ex-beauty queen worked the Vegas strip as a celebrity impersonator, too busy trying to make it big to spare much time for her daughter, Remmi. Shortly before she leaped from a San Francisco building, Didi's profile was rising again, thanks to a tell-all book. To Detective Dani Settler, it looks like a straightforward suicide, or perhaps a promotional stunt gone wrong. But Remmi knows the truth isn't so simple. Because though the broken body on the sidewalk is dressed in Didi's clothes and wig, it isn't Didi.

I thought the story was pretty good until I realized it was only 45 minutes left and tons of loose ends to tie up. The suspense was good until that point. And the other rushed to close it all up and it was very unsatisfying. So I’ve got to give it a three.

This is a really good story but I wish I had waited until the last book (I hope, enough is enough) was available. Now we have to wait until next year and, frankly, it is too long - and pretty arrogant of the author to stick it to her audience that way. I cry foul.

I actually had to skip half the book to get to the end and didn’t care about what I missed. The story is ridiculously long and the characters’ inner turmoil way overblown. Rory is an annoying, hand wringing, self-centered “heroine” whom I just wanted to slap. It took 15 hours to get to the climax and then - done in 3 minutes. Epic fail because the authors crammed 6 hours of story into a 15 hour narration. First time I felt this way about a book by this author.
