Single mother Maisey Addington has always fallen short of her own mother’s expectations - never married, a bit adrift, wasting her high IQ on dead-end jobs. The only thing Maisey’s sure she’s gotten right is her relationship with her 12-year-old daughter, Elle…until a phone call blows apart the precarious balance of their lives. Maisey’s mother is in a coma, and her aging father faces charges of abuse and neglect. Back at her childhood home, Maisey must make a heartrending life-or-death decision. I loved this story and I loved the message that the author depicted throughout the novel. heartfelt and a story of individuality and overcoming.
I did not, repeat did jot like the narrator! her normally speaking voice was not my favorite and her multiple attempts to do "voices" for each character we just terrible. I would love to purchase and enjoy more of MS. Kings novels, just as long as they have a different narrator.

Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

to call this a historic fiction doesnt give it anywhere near enough scope. I loved everything about this story, the narrator and the premise. I'm going to be looking into more by this autor and read by this narrator.
