Escaping wrongful imprisonment wasn't something Connor had in mind, but being put into stasis aboard Earth's first interstellar colony ship was something he couldn't have prepared for. For 300,000 colonists, the new colony brings the promise of a fresh start...a second chance. Connor might be the wrong man for the colony, but he's the right man to see that it survives what's coming.

Convicted criminal James Griffin-Mars is no one's hero. In his time, Earth is a toxic, abandoned world, and humans have fled into the outer solar system to survive, eking out a fragile, doomed existence among the other planets and their moons. Those responsible for delaying humanity's demise believe time travel holds the key, and they have identified James, troubled though he is, as one of a select and expendable few ideally suited for the most dangerous job in history.

This is a fun, light sci-fi dystopian adventure. I enjoyed the world and the characters (I will withhold judgement of Elise who seems to be very narrow minded for a brilliant scientist - but perhaps she matures as the series continues). Salvaging itmes before history records them as destroyed or otherwise lost to war or other events is compelling. Overall it was a fun story and I am continuing on to the next book.

I almost didn't purchase this 2nd installment of the Orphan X series because of the review that said it dragged in the middle - I am glad that my curiosity finally got the best of me, because I didn't find it to be boring in the least. How do you survive and escape when you are being held captive by a psychopath and his private army - good stuff!

To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet.
