Why? . . . Was there no demo to hear the narrator?

Why was this narrator chosen? I ONLY listened because I am hooked on this series. But it was terribly painful to do so.
The narrator couldn't replicate a Scottish brogue.
The male voices were a complete disaster.
The random pauses added to the mess.
Very disappointing.

This book is not like the average hero Scottish Highlander fantasy books. If you are not into erotica, you will not care for this story. Please read the reviews.

It opens and you get the back ground of the female protagonist. Then the Highlander Laird character is introduced. The listener is plunged into eroticism. "Where did that come from and how will this even make sense for the protagonist?" She is supposed to be escaping from a troubled marriage. And now she is going to this?

When both characters meet, I thought by chance the female protagonist was meeting with one of the warriors and not the Laird. That would have actually made for a better read/listen IMO. Especially based on the Laird's character intro sex scene. I could not make it past chapter six. I have listened to bad books, but two hours of this was enough. If you are purely want to listen to sex-capades, perhaps you will enjoy it.

Antony Ferguson has a great voice and I have listened to several of his narrations. Five (million) stars for him lol. Sadly, I will not be completing this one.

I do agree with the other reviewers as they mention Arika's narration is not good. Her voice was just wrong for this book.

This is such a good book. I am so glad I took a chance despite the stars given on Audible. You can feel the warmth of the narrator's smile as she performs each character. When the female protagonist is in dread, I found myself listening intently to find out how this would turn around. The story is a feel good, pick-me-up romance that makes you feel wistful. It's sweet!

Good story. Terrible narrator.

The other reviewers were correct. The narrator is really bad. It was like a squeaky Mary Poppins. The high pitch rhythmic narration was a bit irritating. The Highlander's voice was surprisingly well done. The first word of each sentence has a profound inflection of being harshly spoken and then toning down. Each sentence is read the same way through out the entire book. Harsh and heavy first word then tapering off. The consistency with this type of inflection is unwavering. It is astonishing that she remains so consistent with this intonation. Quite sad for the author as the story line behind this time travel romance is brilliant! If you have the time to sit still and read the book, do so. It is most definitely a good purchase.

This book will keep you entertained and enthralled. Julia Whelan is an exceptional narrator who voice is silky smooth. She defines each character and left me hanging onto each word. Such a great story line that keeps your attention. Such a great book.

The narration is awful. Terrible. The story may have been good but I could not finish as the narration is "JUNK". Garbage.
I really wanted to complete the book but the narration is so bad that I literally struggled to follow the story line. I pushed through an hour and a half but cannot listen further.

The prior two books were narrated by Kristen Potter who IMO gives a pretentious, shadowy tone of arrogance to the female protagonists. (Sigh and eye-roll.) That being said, the author is very consistent with weaving the 21st century, modern female lion "roar" throughout the story lines of each female going back into time. But it is the heart felt smiles when things go well for the couples that keep me listening book after book. On to book 4! :-)

So Much Better than Book 1!!!!!!!!

This book was so much better than Book 1. I am cutting my review short so that I can listen to Book 3!

The narrator was great although she still has that contemptuous tone that she uses for the protagonist. This is obviously her narrating tone. Nevertheless, Angeline Fortin, the author, has me pining for Book 3!
