While trying to stop a cyber-attacker stealing all Space Team's hard-earned money, the cyborg, Mech, unlocks a secret partition in his hard drive, revealing a mysterious set of coordinates. The co-ordinates lead the team to Funworld, a planet-sized theme park with a worrying number of artificially intelligent clownbots and a shocking disregard for Health & Safety. With no weapons, and a shapeshifter who can no longer shift-shape, Space Team's quest to unlock Funworld's mysteries leads them deep into the planet's core....

i thought this was not the most enjoyable of the stories. I felt part of the story (fun world) dragged on a bit too long. ever read a fantasy story where you think "gosh this is too much"? that's how I felt. I think just the last 40 mins of the story really got back to what makes this series fun.
as always amazed by the narrator's ability.

But it’s a new, escalating series of mass slayings that has become her latest obsession at Homicide. At first, Jude and her partner, Detective Uriah Ashby, can see no pattern to the seemingly random methods, the crime scenes, or the victims - until they’re approached by a brilliantly compulsive math professor.

I enjoyed the first book and narrator's approach which carried on into this book. The clip of dialogue adds to the space travel and military environment. it's subdued and has a rhythm that fits.
however, there were a few cringe worthy points.
By adding romantic events with narration that is limited not in distinct voices but in conveying emotion. It's creepy. there is no emotional range.
that is why book 2 has a lower score
I will get the next book in the series because the basic story is still entertaining.

Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

the military movements were technical. I don't know if it the author meant to but having the non-military female helped explain many heavy military sections.
it seems too good to be true cliche main character but I must admit I loved his verbal take downs
I will get the next in the series.

when I read the book summary I was hesitant because of the subject of abduction. how graphic would it be ? how dark?
at first I thought "o gosh if the main character continues to talk in this stilting voice I can't handle it". bit the voice did change. I thought I figured out half way through how the story line would go and I though "how predictable" but I got surprised.
the abduction content wasn't always easy to hear.
you end up rooting for the main character for her to succeed.
I will pick up the next book in the series.

I thought I would try this supernatural story as it was part of a series.
the narrator's voice was easy to listen to. However, the quality was BAD. In the first chapter, you can hear the stop and start of new recording sessions. I thought "ok it's just the first chapter" ; I was wrong.
I was interested in the concept of changing forms. However, it's not consistent. in one chapter she talks in short words as the cat. But when she shifts later to a bird she has full cognitive abilities.
the story was too long and didn't hold my interest. I tried to continue because I paid for it but in the end I just went to the end to write this review.
