To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, but what she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.

Audie Award, Narration by Author, 2016. Raised by unconventional Irish Catholics who knew "how to drink, how to dance, how to talk, and how to stir up the devil", Kate Mulgrew grew up with poetry and drama in her bones. But in her mother, a would-be artist burdened by the endless arrival of new babies, young Kate saw the consequences of a dream deferred.

It's really that simple. I chose this book because Rosie O'Donnell had tweeted about it & I'd enjoyed watching Kate as Red in Orange is the New Black. But now, I am in love. Kate writes beautifully & authentically about her life. Even if you only kind of like memoirs, you MUST listen to this one.

Greenville County, South Carolina, is a wild, lush place that is home to the Boatwright family - a tight-knit clan of rough-hewn, hard- drinking men who shoot up each other's trucks, and indomitable women who get married young and age too quickly. At the heart of this story is Ruth Anne Boatwright, known simply as Bone, a bastard child who observes the world around her with a mercilessly keen perspective.

Bone's story is heartbreaking. But it is heartbreaking in the best possible way. I wanted to wrap her up & hug her, but I also understood the intricacies of family dynamics in a situation such has hers. Bastard Out of Carolina was just so good! I couldn't stop listening & wish there was more to hear! A++

In her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down - the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

Clear gospel presentation. Enunciation is fabulous. Thought provoking. Challenging. I have listened to both of her books. Amazing understanding of the entirety of God's love for the world.
