The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

First, let me say that I LOVED the narrator and cannot imagine anyone doing a better job. I am not sure who or what anyone else expected, but I found her voice, tempo and intonation to be perfect for this book. Secondly, this is one of those books that moved into your very soul and leaves you changed by the time you finish it. The way she arranges the words so beautifully is like a symphony to the ears and the heart. I cried and I laughed, but mostly I FELT this book more than I listened to it. My heart hurt during the most tragic parts (and there are plenty) and I gasped aloud at times. I found that I knew virtually nothing of the history of this part of the world and I am ashamed of that fact. I have traveled to South Africa and I loved the people I met there. THIS book made me want to go back to the African continent to see and learn more. I am sad that the book is over. I loved every minute of it. Thank you Audible!!

In this wise, witty, hilarious new novel, we follow the Kettle sisters through their 33rd year, as they struggle to survive their divorced parents' dating each other, their technologically savvy grandmother, a cheating husband, champagne hangovers, and the fabulous, frustrating life of forever being part of a threesome.

Another great book from Liane Moriarty! I’ve listened to several of her books on Audible and this is one of the best. The story is great, with many twists and turns as the lives of the three triplets are revealed. Each young woman faces her own challenges with today’s issues and if you have sisters, you’ll relate. I laughed as I listened and at times I felt like crying, remembering some of the things my family and I have faced. The book made me yearn for closer ties with my own sisters. So well written and very well narrated!

The story was very engaging but the creepy unrealistic ending completely ruined the book. I wish now that I had not wasted all those hours listening to this book. I hate it when an author ruins a good story by inserting a totally bogus concept toward the end to explain what happened rather than taking the time to finish out the plot. Don’t read this one unless you believe in black magic and crazy witchcraft type crap that happens to otherwise normal people, thrown in at the very end of the story to explain the mystery you’ve been listening to for hours!

This one kept me on my toes! I loved every minute of the story. Suzy went through so much as a young woman whose beloved husband was away at sea, while she struggled to deal with the birth of a baby that was not his. The unfolding tale is told with beauty, sadness, and heart. The narration is some of the best I’ve ever heard. I can’t wait to read more by this author and hear more by this narrator. Two thumbs up!!

This author is one of my favorites but this narrator is simply to be endured. The downward turn in her voice inflection almost ruined this book. I wish the author would re-issue this book with the same narrator as one of her more recent books. It would COMPLETELY change this book and might even listen to it again. The story line is delightful but I had to slog through this one and considered quitting several times.

Love this book!! When a successful attorney loses her best friend and law partner unexpectedly, she realized that hard work, long hours and expensive cars are not what brings true happiness. Quite by accident, she discovers a piece of Heaven in a rundown house in a rural area outside the City. This book reminded me of the important things in life and the story is told as only this author can do it! The narration is PERFECT for this story. Don’t miss this one!!

I really loved the story. Well, I didn’t “love” the story, as it was a disturbing reminder of the tragedy of slavery. However, the characters were very endearing and I loved how the author revealed their point of view, weaving the story as she told what happened from their point of view. However, the stilted language and poor narration almost ruined it for me. I almost didn’t finish it and considered returning the book several times but ultimately finished it. I would never choose a book narrated by this person again and I’d be wary of something by this author.

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don't say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

Spoiler alert: this book involves a near drowning of a young child. If that is a difficult subject for you, don’t read it. Otherwise it is another great book by this author. An onside look at the lives of three couples whose paths intersect through a variety of issues, the story weaves through a period of time when each couple is dealing with their own lives in different ways. The characters are interesting and very true to life - you’ll surely find something to relate to in each of them. The narration is fabulous and so easy to listen to. And this is a story you can’t predict from one moment to the next. The only difficulty is if you’ve had your own experience with the tragedy of a child drowning. Then it is just too close to home. This happened to a friend of a friend of mine and I had a little bit of a hard time with that part of the story - so be forewarned.

Not at all what I expected. I thought this was a “chick” book and while it did have lots of funny references and was SO well written, there were some very serious underlying messages that made it so much better than I expected. All of the characters were so well developed and any woman who has ever struggled with motherhood or marital issues or just making it through life will surely relate to the women in this book. I loved it all. The narration is superb!!
