From number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty, author of Big Little Lies, comes her newest audiobook, Nine Perfect Strangers: Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amid all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these 10 days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next 10 days are going to be.

I love this author and pre-ordered this book. I couldn’t wait to get it. But sadly, there is something not quite right. I tried to listen. I repeatedly started the book and got as far as about the 10th chapter. But alas, it was not to be. There is something not right. It’s like someone else read one of her books and tried to copy her style. I returned it for a refund. I just couldn’t imagine 70+ chapters of this!!!

The Bird children have an idyllic childhood: a picture-book cottage in a country village, a warm, cosy kitchen filled with love and laughter, sun-drenched afternoons in a rambling garden. But one Easter weekend a tragedy strikes the Bird family that is so devastating it tears them apart. Many years later something will call them home, back to the house they grew up in - and to what really happened that Easter weekend all those years ago.

This book has it all. An interesting plot, very strong characters, unexpected twists and turns and an excellent narrator. The story moves from present day to sometime in the past (when the kids were growing up) and back and forth among several of the key characters - and does it very well. Emotions run high, but not in a bad way. If you come from a family where everyone doesn’t quite live up to their potential, where you sometimes wish you could turn back the clock and do things a bit differently, you’ll understand this book and most likely enjoy it. We all know that life can be tough and we all make mistakes. This book walks us through one family’s journey and is very well written. Spoiler alert: there is a suicide of a 16 year old boy in this story. If that is too close to home for you, don’t select this one. Otherwise I highly recommend it!!

One of the best I’ve listened to in a while! Great characters, unpredictable but not wildly far fetched. Kept me guessing and interested enough that I was eager to get to the next part and resented arriving at my destination when I had to turn off my phone and stop listening. Very good narration. So glad I found this one!!

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

First, let me say that I LOVED the narrator and cannot imagine anyone doing a better job. I am not sure who or what anyone else expected, but I found her voice, tempo and intonation to be perfect for this book. Secondly, this is one of those books that moved into your very soul and leaves you changed by the time you finish it. The way she arranges the words so beautifully is like a symphony to the ears and the heart. I cried and I laughed, but mostly I FELT this book more than I listened to it. My heart hurt during the most tragic parts (and there are plenty) and I gasped aloud at times. I found that I knew virtually nothing of the history of this part of the world and I am ashamed of that fact. I have traveled to South Africa and I loved the people I met there. THIS book made me want to go back to the African continent to see and learn more. I am sad that the book is over. I loved every minute of it. Thank you Audible!!

Another great book from Liane Moriarty! I’ve listened to several of her books on Audible and this is one of the best. The story is great, with many twists and turns as the lives of the three triplets are revealed. Each young woman faces her own challenges with today’s issues and if you have sisters, you’ll relate. I laughed as I listened and at times I felt like crying, remembering some of the things my family and I have faced. The book made me yearn for closer ties with my own sisters. So well written and very well narrated!

The story was very engaging but the creepy unrealistic ending completely ruined the book. I wish now that I had not wasted all those hours listening to this book. I hate it when an author ruins a good story by inserting a totally bogus concept toward the end to explain what happened rather than taking the time to finish out the plot. Don’t read this one unless you believe in black magic and crazy witchcraft type crap that happens to otherwise normal people, thrown in at the very end of the story to explain the mystery you’ve been listening to for hours!

This one kept me on my toes! I loved every minute of the story. Suzy went through so much as a young woman whose beloved husband was away at sea, while she struggled to deal with the birth of a baby that was not his. The unfolding tale is told with beauty, sadness, and heart. The narration is some of the best I’ve ever heard. I can’t wait to read more by this author and hear more by this narrator. This author is one of my favorites but this narrator is simply to be endured. The downward turn in her voice inflection almost ruined this book. I wish the author would re-issue this book with the same narrator as one of her more recent books. It would COMPLETELY change this book and might even listen to it again. The story line is delightful but I had to slog through this one and considered quitting several times.
