The one good thing I will say is the narrator was very good. Now then: I liked the first book in this series enough to continue, but I will call it quits with this one. It is a very different book than Save My Soul - I realized that when, in the first couple chapters there was a boatload of violence (including an extremely violent beating and rape). Thankfully there weren't many more scenes like that in the book (and only the one rape). I do not need graphic detail of that sort of thing; it turns my stomach. The book felt to me like one of Gena Showalter's LOTU books - only boring, predictable, and lacking the humor and character depth that make Gena's books enjoyable.

The main character has to literally go through hell to get his one true love to return to him - you would think that kind of epic journey would be fraught with emotion, heartbreak, and suspense. Instead it was...boring and predictable. I didn't feel invested in either of the two main characters, even after Ryan's tragic unrequited love grabbed my interest in the first book. Disappointing.

Maybe I have a better ability than some to suspend disbelief, but I really enjoyed this story. Yes, the combination of SEALS/shifters/psy abilities seems a little like obvious catnip, but I guess I like catnip! Besides, if that is all that holds a book afloat, it will sink. That is not the case here: The story was good and left me wanting to know what happens in the next book. And for me, any book will sink if I do not like the characters or they are poorly developed. I thoroughly enjoyed Tyler's characters, and the supporting cast members were great! Sarial and Kalen...I really want to know what happens to them. Oh! And Kristen Potter is magnificent in everything I have heard her do so far.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

I have read a lot of paranormal, and I was surprised by how awesome - and how funny - this was. There is tons of action and I grew to really love Pia over the course of the book. She is stubborn, but not stubbornly stupid like some you just want to slap across the face. There is one scene in particular (let's just say it involved too much alcohol and girl bonding with a fae princess) that had me in tears it was so funny. Sophie Eastlake is a great narrator for this series.

I wanted to try this because I had seen so many good reviews, but I found it a bit disappointing. I was not surprised to see that, on the book's Amazon page, Christine Feehan gives ebullient praise...because this book sort of reminded me of Dark Prince - a book I hated enough not to finish (RARE for me). This book was better than Dark Prince - after all I did finish it, and I there is enough of a plot to make me curious about the second book.

Why I am comparing it to that book: 1) The relationship between Elaina and Raphael seemed contrived in the same way - why is she so irresistible to a man who has lived for millennia? The author didn't convince me. 2) Repeated ad nauseum assertations of the inconceivable beauty of one or both characters - in this case, mostly Raphael. And after all the buildup, the one love scene was like an afterthought. Also, after an entire book, I don't really feel like I know that much about either Elaina or Raphael. Several references to Elaina's childhood piqued my interest, but were not followed up on. Maybe in the next book...

Narrator: I didn't like her much at first (she has a nasal voice), but she grew on me as I heard her deal with other characters and accents.

The premise of this story was good, the writing style was good, the characters were alright - though I did find Emma a tad annoying. It was ok for a light read, but overall just wasn't the best book. As for the narrator - meh. The male voices were not too bad. At one point in the story, Emma was having a hissy fit about something, and I thought, "OMG, her angry woman voice sounds like Miss Piggy!" I hope the next book is better, because I bought both when they were on sale. Worth a credit? Maybe not. If you are looking for a lighthearted werewolf story, one I absolutely loved was The Accidental Werewolf by Dakota Cassidy. It isn't on Audible unfortunately, but the book was hilarious.

This is my first Molly Harper book, and I loved her sense of humor. There is a good storyline, but the characters are what make this so enjoyable. I also loved the Alaska setting, and the main character's kooky backstory and way of looking at the world. The narrator was wonderful - WHEN she was doing female voices. My one critique is her male characters - they all sounded like 80 year old emphysema patients! Still, worth a listen for sure.
