Buy this book if you want to be able to communicate more effectively. While this book is meant to get results (and it does) it also presents a whole new way of looking at your relationships, your conversations, and your way of thinking. Think I am full of hot air? Think again. Many of the things he talked about I knew, and had thought about, but didn't know how to put into practice. Want an example? This one comes to mind. When giving criticism, have you ever tried to start with praise? I would hope so. Don't you hate getting criticism like this:
"Johnny, you did really well in school this semester, but if you worked harder in Algebra, you would do even better." This is what we try to do, but when we hear that "but" we get that feeling in our gut and the good opening is lost. Do you know the feeling? He says instead, we should change our "but" to and, and it will make all the difference. What about this?
"Johnny, you did really well in school this semester, and if you work harder in Algebra, you can do even better." That sounds better, and it takes away the smite to turn it into encouragement. Little things like this I have noticed, but I couldn't think of a way to fix it. They got a good reader to read it as well. I am rambling, the book was good.
