Haven't loved a writers work THIS much in a long time. I can't remember waiting THIS eagerly for new works to come out since Seeress of Kell.. the conclusion of the Belgariad/Mallorean series.
I'm seriously hoping someone will give this writer a run for his money/ some competition (and include me as a beta reader!)
To the best of my knowledge, I've devoured everything of his I can find and have LOVED everything in his Elan world hands down!

Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high. Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered.

I personally don't like background music etc when it overlays narrative.
I have a hard time understanding narrative when there's background to it.
a movie/TV show is different bc there are gestures and lip movement to help with clarity. it's frustrating to have the background music for the last paragraph and find it suddenly have to focus harder

Elaine is an orphan girl who has grown up in a world where magical ability brings power. Her limited talent was enough to ensure a magical training, but she's very inexperienced and was lucky to get a position working in the Great Library. Now, the Grand Sorcerer - the most powerful magician of them all - is dying, although initially that makes little difference to Elaine; she certainly doesn't have the power to compete for higher status in the Golden City. But all that changes when she triggers a magical trap....

I did not like the irrelevant sexual discussions between the roommates or the other sexual context as it was irrelevant to the story. I like the adventure and the other topics/details did nothing for the story.
I have previously liked this author. I have read 2 other series of his with no hints that sexual advice/ discussion or scenes would be utilized and often.
The narrator was fine. since I kept getting irritated by the irrelevance in the story, I find the whole story has left a negative effect/impression. I'm not sure I'd be an honest critic right now in regards to the audible portion.

THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT ORAL SEX OR HEAR ABOUT IT BEING PERFORMED!

The topic is mentioned 3 times before the middle of the story (where I quit)

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn't quite work out that way...
