For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare - poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

The audio book is unique in that in between reading chapters, the narrator/co-author interviews David. Overall, it's interesting as a break between chapters. I'm actually returning the audisobook and buying the book instead because there are exercises after every chapter, photos referenced, and there was no audiobook supplement. Feel like that was a major miss that should be rectified for this audiobook.

I was hoping for a nugget here or there but the author peppers almost every other line with a quick joke and it quickly becomes irritating. With lines like "faster than Alec Baldwin gets kicked off a plane" (I likely butchered that comment), it is hard to take the time to take in her knowledge. I am fine with humor, but she overdoes it and I feel it takes away from an otherwise good premise.

God gave us emotions to experience life, not destroy it! Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has had experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued. We stuff, we explode, or we react somewhere in between. What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how.

What a disappointment.

I was really excited to take in this book and hoped for some nuggets of knowledge. Unfortunately, it's more of a collection of random thoughts with the author explaining that everyone has emotions, they take over us a lot.

Her answers come from the bible, but they're not really answers as much as more thoughts she tries to tie back to her situation.

First time I want to ask for my money back.

This book was so stuffed with self/company promotion that it's difficult to pull out the nuggets of wisdom.

I decided to listen to the entire book in hopes he would lessen the promotion of himself and his company in favor of meaningful content but it was not to be and I lost hours of my life.
