Mary Olivia Pentecost, known as Mop, was born into one of the wealthiest families in the country - and one of the most guarded. Now, two years after her mother’s mysterious death, Mop is seeking closure by returning to the New England seaside estate of her cloistered Aunty Liv - once her closest confidante. But behind the walls of the isolated estate, the shadows of the past are darker than Mop imagined. With each revelation comes a new, foreboding threat - and for Mop, the grave suspicion that to discover Aunty Liv’s secrets is to become a prisoner of them.

I did not even get through the first chapter before I decided to stop listening to the almost constant swearing. While I prefer books with out any swearing at all. One occasionally can be tolerated, but I do not like the amount of swearing in this book. I would give this book no stars if it let me.

1914. For Paul, with love. Jewish silversmith Johann Blumenthal engraved those words on his most exquisite creation, a singing filigree bird inside a tiny ornamented box. He crafted this treasure for his young son before leaving to fight in a terrible war to honor his beloved country - a country that would soon turn against his own family. A half century later, Londoner Lilian Morrison inherits the box after the death of her parents. Though the silver is tarnished and dented, this much-loved treasure is also a link to an astonishing past.
