I really liked the main female character’s strength initially but as the story went on she disappointed me. The husband was utterly disgusting. I wish the book didn’t drag as long as it did. I think the story could’ve been over in the chapters of book 1. Hopefully, book 2 quickly covers the ending of book 1 and carries on with the two female characters lives after the husband is gone.

Yara is an outstanding character who possesses a quiet, understated strength. She went through absolute hell and got more than a little bit of karma. In the end, she fought hard to redeem herself and recaptured who she was truly meant to be. What a wonderful story! The narrator was a little extra sometimes but he tried... it didn’t take away from the story too much.

What type of man sleeps with a married woman? Stokely Robeson is not the type of man who usually comes to mind, but he is a man who, in following his heart, has found himself in an awkward web of love from which there is no painless escape.

The story premise is fresh and interesting. the narration is more than satifactory. It's funny at times and sad others. My only complaint is that it seemed to end in the middle. This goes beyond just leaving unanswered questions. I re-downloaded thinking the file wasn't completed.

The premise was innocent enough. Beloved daughter is kidnapped. Father contacts estranged family for help.... and then the story goes dark. This book is full of blood, cuts, and demented thoughts. There's way too much emphasis on the horrible things this couple did to get their daughter back. I would like to have learned more about the Orlando family. Overall, the book is decent but because of the amount of gruesome scenes, I wouldn't recommend it.

They say that good girls like bad boys, and this was especially true for Pearl Stone, a child born of privilege to a drug baron and reputed killer known in the streets as Big Stone. Although the flashy, fast-paced nature of the streets calls to Pearl, she's been brought up to look but not touch. Yet when a young hustler named Diamonds crawls up from the swamps of Louisiana and sets up shop in New York City, everything Pearl was taught flies out the window.

They were just kids when Claudette McPhearson took them all in. Eight of them all together. All different races and ethnic makeups, but she loved them as her own. One woman taught them how to love, trust, and respect one another. She was the only glue that kept them together, the only one they wanted to please and never let down. She had been their light at the end of a long troublesome tunnel - it shined so bright. Then, one dreadful day, it all came to a crashing halt.

The family dynamics are strange but realistic. The narrators wete some of my favorites in the audiobook world. I was disappointed because I would have liked to get a more detailed background on each of the characters. I would've also enjoyed more details that are key in visualizing the scenes. I was unable to see the characters and their scenery.

I'm really disappointed that I just spent 13 hrs of my life listening to a book, only to find out there's a continuation. I can't believe how frustrated I am. the story could have been over at the 8hr mark and not have a part 2. The author wrote this book almost like a screen play. Way too many details. I like the plot but dang, wrap it up!
