Before Harry took on the neo-Nazi gangs of Oslo, before he met Rakel, before The Snowman tried to take everything he held dear, he went to Australia. Harry Hole is sent to Sydney to investigate the murder of Inger Holter, a young Norwegian girl who was working in a bar. Initially sidelined as an outsider, Harry becomes central to the Australian police investigation when they start to notice a number of unsolved rape and murder cases around the country. The victims were usually young blondes. Inger had a number of admirers, each with his own share of secrets, but there is no obvious suspect.

Well, it was unusual. it was interesting. I bought this because I had seen the movie The Snowman. and I wanted to learn more about the character.

even though this is billed as the first Harry novel, don't expect to learn why he's a binge drinker. I think. I'm not sure. It was unusual. it was interesting.

good enough that I'm going to pick another and listen to it.

Over a hundred years have passed since a group of violent killers went on the rampage, murdering innocent victims for fun. But even back then, sorcerer Nate Garrett, aka Hellequin, knew there was more to it than simple savage pleasure - souls were being stolen. Nate's discovery of the souls' use, and of those supporting the group's plan, made him question everything he believed.

I'm not sure what else to say here. It's great. It's original. It has great characters and character development.

Plus if they ever make a movie from this they should get Benedict Cumberbatch to play Nate Garrett. that's who I see in my mind when I listen to this.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

It's a like a really good modern long Twilight Zone story.

The narrator is absolutely GREAT!!!

When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

Astounded that Audible listened and had it done over right.
I cannot repeat enough how much Marsters brings to these books.
The narration with Glover, while not bad, just didn't grab me.
I didn't even remember most of the story. Especially since I only listened to it once.

This one, though, will get a couple listens before summer is over.

Let this be a lesson. Stick with Marsters, we would rather have the true "Harry Dresden" than an imitator, even if it means waiting for schedules to coincide.

Great Story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
