Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

Within minutes of listening to this book, I thought it was going to be a good book. As soon as the male voice started speaking and telling his story... I returned the book! Come on now.... a beautiful young lady has a flat tire and all of a sudden she is kissing him!!! Sounds like a fantasy for the author and wasted time for the reader. There could have been a better "meeting place" for the reader/listener. Too bad.

Ten-year-old Patrick O'Brien is a natural target at school. Shy, dyslexic, and small for his age, he tries to hide his first-grade reading level from everyone: from his classmates, from the grandfather who cares for him, and from the teachers who are supposed to help him. But the real trouble begins when Patrick is accused of attacking a school aide. The aide promptly quits and sues the boy, his family, and the school district. Patrick's grandfather turns to the law firm of Rosato & DiNunzio for help, and Mary DiNunzio is on the case.

I agree with many of my fellow readers.... This book should have had a warning sign on it. At the end of the book, there is a two-hour bonus book with the missing sister, Julia's story. I decided to turn it off at that point, because I knew the outcome of what happened to her and didn't want to hear anymore from this story. The author's name "slaughter" suits her well for this book. The narrator was excellent.

This book was a waste of my time. I love the Animal Series, but this was not what I expected. Yes, it was a gang war but there were so many "wars" that I couldn't keep track. I am sure there will be another book to this series since the ordeal of the children were not solved. I just hope it is better. Narrator was excellent but the story line lacked tremendously!
