Wish I had the proper words to express how much I enjoyed this story. The collaboration between Grayson and Urruela was impeccable. Frankly, knowing the history behind Mr. Urruela as being a soldier and witness to the inhumanities of people and war itself, his writing is moving and simply unforgettable. I don't believe there could have been a better choice than Urruela, learning, first-hand what it is to be an amputee. Well done!

What did you like best about Wicked Beautiful? What did you like least?

Sincerely, read the reviews before making your decision. I did, but still purchased both books in series anyway, thinking after reading "hey, it can't be all that bad...". They were right and I was wrong.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I found the story too long - meaning much of the dialogue was repeated. It could have been edited down while still keeping the tone of the book with all its twists and turns. A good book should hold you to the edge of your seat, dying to know what happens next -- this story just left me dying (fell asleep more than once while listening to the book at bedtime).

How could the performance have been better?

This book may have stood a chance, but honestly - the narrator really does make or break the book. Ms. Moran did not (or could not) deliver the proper tone needed to portray this self-proclaimed "bitch". Her voice is too whiny for one. It's not her fault the book didn't have a true male voice reading the part, but Moran couldn't deliver.

Any additional comments?

Let me just conclude by stating this, my opinion and I'll stand by it: If you are so insecure and immature to the point of holding on to a grudge well into adulthood, you are not and will never be considered a confident, successful woman, such as the heroine is depicted as being. Get over it. We all have at some point in your young lives. And if we haven't, or didn't...I strongly suggest therapy.

Would you try another book from Lauren Blakely and/or the narrators?

Most of her books are terrific! This one? Got the feeling she had someone else write it for her, only adding her touch here and there.

If you’ve listened to books by Lauren Blakely before, how does this one compare?

I was and am disappointed in this book. I honestly had to look up the date as to when it was written, wondering if it was one of her first. Not quite finding her footing...but it's a recent book! Really....I'm sorry...it put me to sleep.

How could the performance have been better?

The narration was just average. The recordings sounded cheap. The narrator(s) fell flat. I expected so much more...

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. Not unless there was a lot of rewriting to the script. The conversations are/were predictable. I'm not joking! I really got the impression someone with much less experience wrote this book.

Any additional comments?

Think I've said enough...

Thoroughly enjoyed the three books in the Redhead series! It's been a long time since I've listened to a good book, really got into the storyline and narration was perfect! Felt like I could really get to know and like the main character! Makes me think I'll be going back for other Alice Clayton books!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Sad to say, I wouldn't. It's monotonous, it's boring at points, the sex scenes are all the same...truth be told, I fell asleep throughout the narrative of this book, not just once, but on several occasions. As we would all agree, sex should be exciting - not mind numbing. Sorry if that's being harsh.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Unfortunately, I purchased the entire series of this book. Not to waste money (or the use of a credit), I will continue to listen. But in all honesty, I'm looking forward to something a little better written and better performed. Not to blame the narrator - you can only do your best with what you're given to work with. Listen, I'm certainly not an expert at critiquing books, but sincerely felt, while listening to this story, that it was extremely amateurish. Left me wondering if this was the author's first novel and hoping, in time, he/she will improve.

What aspect of Ellen Lange’s performance would you have changed?

She needed a counter-partner. She has two vocal tones - one female, one male. She gave a New York accent to one male character, but that was the only variance.

Could you see Back-up being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really. It would take a great deal of re-write - cutting a lot of the content and leaving it on the floor.

Any additional comments?

Ok, down to brass and tacks. This story was so sticky sweet, it made even me (a true-born romantic) feel sick. I'd like to meet a real man who utters "I love you" (without being forced) as much as Jack. He doesn't exist...not even in faerie tales. As I listened, this is the ultimate book of what a woman dreams of having and hearing from her man...

I'm not normally a pessimist or love-hater. I'm just saying that these characters are unrealistic. Unfortunately!

Would you consider the audio edition of Overruled to be better than the print version?

It seems like it's been a while since I've come across a really good book lately. Just happened to come across this book & am glad I did! The story is well written, smart, & although predictable - a great story. The narrator, Mr. Carpenter, is terrific with voice changes to suit characters. Looking forward to starting the next book in the series tonight!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Honestly? I'm only in the middle of it and don't know if I can tolerate finishing the story. I don't like to be mean to anyone, but the narrator & her style make me want to light a fire under her - she takes a lot of pauses where none should be taken (in my opinion).

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It's a bit slow-moving. I have the next two books in the series and am hoping I can make it through. Ok, to be fair, I am realizing the deeper I get into the story that this series is more for teens, so it's not my era. But I want (and have) to say out loud "oh, grow up already" every time the lead female character retorts with "shut up...so-&-so"

What didn’t you like about Jessica Almasy’s performance?

Same opinion as already written. It will be difficult to listen to the next two books in the series if this woman is narrating

Could you see The Summer I Turned Pretty being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes...for young teens.
