Definitely not my kind of book. I was thinking it was going to be a cozy mystery. Which is what I like. I made it about 20 minutes. Got to remember to check the books out in more details before buying. This is more of an erotic, kind of, cozy. I wish I hadn't paid for it.

Uncomfortable Book, no ending

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. Stop the game of no ending. I know it means you get readers to buy another book but I think it's deceptive. Tell people beforehand to give them a choice.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The general concept was interesting. Women being basically slaves because of brainwashing. How the organization made it's money and kidnapped people was also interesting. But, It got repetitive and tiring. I know the author wanted to make sure you understand why a woman would have this kind of relationship, but I figured that out without more and more and more insights into the psychological reasons.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The reader is very good. And so was the male reader. I like having both as sometimes it sounds bizarre when one gender tries to change voice to another. Very few can pull that off.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not if it was as on going as this one. Probably shortened, edited well, this could be a good movie.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. It seemed to go on forever. I kept thinking if I hung in there it would be wrapped up with a great ending but it didn't.

Has A Cold War turned you off from other books in this genre?

yes

What about Teri Clark Linden’s performance did you like?

I was surprised at how well she was able to switch voices. The main antagonist was not an easy character for a female to voice.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No way. Too unsettling, gross, and too long without reason for it to keep going on.

Any additional comments?

I don't get all the great reviews. Felt like an editor should have stepped in and tightened this up. Too many odd plot parts that took away, not added to the story. Readers should know there is a lot of gross and crude dialogue that goes on with the main antagonist. Plus I couldn't find a character that I really liked. I think I was supposed to like the female lead but I just couldn't. Written well, especially dialogue but not tight, without likable characters or a realistic female lead. And it kept going on and on.

What disappointed you about 314?

First of all I like to have a character I can connect with or at least like. The characters in this book were all somewhere between naive and dangerous. They talked about being friends yet they betrayed each other all the time. Not my idea of friendship. Just kind of off. Second the plot didn't make any sense!! Which I why I kept listening. I though surely at some point in time the author would tie it together. Instead it was cheaply ended by saying it wasn't ended and you would need to get the next book. ??

What does Vanessa Johansson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The reader didn't have a lot to work with here but did a good job nonetheless.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration!

Any additional comments?

I won't be buying book two because at this point I don't think even another whole book will put the pieces together for this story.

What made the experience of listening to Cold Betrayal the most enjoyable?

The writer had you along with her as she was fighting the bad guys. I found myself desperately wanting it to end well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, unfortunately. I try hard to make my Audible books last awhile but found myself listening when I should have been doing other things.

Would you try another book from Jinx Schwartz and/or Beth Richmond?

nope

Would you ever listen to anything by Jinx Schwartz again?

yes, for sure

Any additional comments?

I'm out of this demographic but the characters were so shallow and not all that bright. I gave up listening because it just never got better.

If you could sum up The Girl on the Train in three words, what would they be?

Longing Desperation Betrayal

What did you like best about this story?

The narrators were fantastic. The story itself grew on me more intensely as I kept reading.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Rachel, of course.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

When I started listening I was fascinated. But then the original description of this book seemed to be misleading and the plot turned a corner into a sadder story. I almost stopped reading but I'm glad I continued. As I listened I imagined Kate Winslet playing the part of Rachel. For quite awhile it was hard for me to "bond" with the characters, and that is something I need to get invested in a story line. But eventually I did and that, along with the growing intensity of the plot keep me reading to the end.

Fun and made me want to keep reading.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend it. I never thought I would read a book where one of the characters is a skeleton but it was entertaining. I liked it that the writer didn't need to make up ways that explained how a skeleton could walk and talk. Somehow she wrote it so you just accepted it. I found characters that I could like and that's always important to me.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor and the connection between the characters.

What does Katina Kalin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I realized half way in that I just accepted Sid's voice just like the human characters! The cadence of his voice was steady and perfect for who he was. All the characters were well read and appropriate. You could hear the age and gender differences and they were right on.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Funny bone friends till end!

Not my style

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The pros of this book are the funny parts and fun characters. The negative for me was that it was filled with swear words and the main character and just about everybody else were always ready for or having sex. I wish there were ratings on books then we could all find the ones we wanted to read. Was never sure about her relationship with her children - she didn't seem mature enough to be raising children. And there was an odd ending where during the final minutes of crazy fighting the "bad guys" the hero was no where to be seen. I kept expecting him to ride in on his white horse but he's not even mentioned for awhile. So for me this was cute and I think the style of humor was fun. The performance was pretty good and that's saying a lot because there were several characters that would have been challenging. The writer seems very talented, it's just not my style.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Drop most of the swear words. I thought funny Violet could have been more creative with her language. There was a lot of stressful situations and although the humor helped I would have written a couple of situations or relationships that worked were positive. Tension is good, just not all the time.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Shaffer – was your favorite?

Not really any favorite. The writing was good as far as bringing the characters to life, but maybe that was my problem, I didn't really find characters to care about. They all seemed silly. Performance wise, the way she brought those crazy characters to life was fun to hear.Although the best friend sounded about 12.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Would you try another book from Diane Chamberlain and/or Susan Bennett?

Probably not. The book made me feel worn out and dissatisfied at the end. I do like tension just not all tension.

What could Diane Chamberlain have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The relationships were all negative and they just kept on being negative. I think the tension was supposed to be there but it just made me want to scream at the main character to get some smarts and self respect. Even the ending seemed dull. Or maybe simplistic. And I was still not sure why everything had to be keep secret still. After everything they had gone through would the truth have been that much harder to deal with? It left me feeling like there was more tension to come.

What does Susan Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought she was good. A little monotone but that's how the book read. I would definitely read books read by her again.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Silent Sister?

I would cut some of the continuous relationship experiences that happen repeatedly. Each time she was with the brother it was the same thing, and the woman who helped her clean out the house and the couple that informed her she was adopted. I just felt like we had "been here before." Yes, this was a family that had been damaged, I got that right from the beginning.

Any additional comments?

I think this just wasn't the book for me. There are a ton of great ratings for it so it must be me. I think I needed a little relief sometimes or something that wasn't predictable. And I wanted to like the main character more than I did.
