Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn't usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he's being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats. And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind's few strict taboos.

Hard to do a review with no spoilers but I hate having a book spoiled so I try not to do it myself. I enjoyed the reading of this narration. First time listening to an Anita Blake novel. I have listened to many other books on Audible. My favorite audible type is a male reading the "mens" parts and a female reading the "females" parts. There was only one female narrator for this particular book and she did a good narrating all parts. Possibly because the main character is female it worked well regardless who she was speaking for. The narrator used different reflections and voices for the different characters well enough for it to flow nicely. I look forward to hearing her read another Anita book if she is hired for a soli reading. The story had a nice portion of it explaining some questions I had from previous books, or at least progressing towards the next levels in quite a few things without forcing it. I have read all the books in this series (at the time of this review) and am planning on listening to a few more for fun and more depth to my favorite characters. Listening to the book brings out a depth to the characters that is nice to experience that reading myself does not fully expand on in some of the books. A few characters from the past books resurface in this story and I enjoyed the certain characters popping up or the expanding of favorite characters in this novel. For those that like the police work only and those that like the relationship parts more, there are both in this book and seems more balanced to me compared to other books. I like both parts and was pleased to see plots moving along in this book.
Happy listening!

Nice performance!! My favorite type is female and male parts being read by different people. Male and female respectively. Made the story have more depth than other audible books as the characters had more personality and seemed more "real" so to speak. Going to listen again!!

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness's enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew's ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency.

Enjoyed listening to this third book in series. The audible version gives character depth that enhances the book. Do yourself a favor and read books one and two first or you will miss out on a lot of character development and huge plot sections will be missing. As the main character is female I enjoyed the female narrator. She did well for the entire series. Only thing that could be better is a male to read the "guy" parts. But that is personal preference and I still give five stars all across the board.

Great story! Listened to the audio continuously. Has several couples and other hunters in it. My favorite type of the dark series is when there are several hunters/groups together. There is clearly a story of one couple but other people introduced and former couples and people brought back. New developments has really added dimensions to the overall plot and continued conflicts. Bad guys are given more depths. Looking forward to next one!! Thank you! Good performance. Only type better is when there are more than one reader for female and male parts. But that is just personal preference.

Great stories. I gave performance only three stars as it is only the ones with David Tenant reading that deserve five stars. The stories sound best with a doctor reading it. I won't purchase in the future any other stories that have non doctor's reading it. Listening to the doctors voice is a major part of it thats needed. Bravo David Tenant!! Thanks for bringing the doctor back for me!
