If there is an abridged book that would be a better choice. The book was entirely too long . The amount of detail was overwhelming and boring. The chapters covering Moulson’s journey was very exciting , inspiring and informative. The story could have been told in half the time.

Lots of statistics and analysis. Incite full on how veterans were treated and how they felt about their experiences both during their tour and after they returned stateside. I definitely respect the men who served many of whom are my friends and I also feel lucky I did not have to endure this awful experience.

I'm not a veteran and about 5 years younger than the characters. I was fortunate, I was smart enough and had the funds to attend college during the war. I did have classmates who went to war and also knew some veterans who entered college when I was a senior. I always respected these men and felt lucky that I did not have to endure the trials they did. This book was a pleasure to read . It allowed you to intimately identify with each of the men . I hated to finish this book because it was so enjoyable to listen too. A fantastic book!

This book could have been done in half the time. Way too many details which took away from the storyline. The narrator had an accent which at times was difficult to understand. I enjoyed the history but not the book.

This book and story was riveting
There was never a dull moment.
What courage & poor judgement at the same time. I saw the movie which was great, the book is even better.

I purchased this book on sale. I had put off reading it for over a year , no real reason I just had second thoughts after purchasing it.
After I started reading it l looked forward to my morning commute. It was a heart warming story which most middle class people could relate to. It gave incite into what middle class black families endured during the 40's,50's 60's, & 70's.
Well done.
