STORY
Having never read anything by Evan Grace before, I was thrilled when I was immediately sucked into this story! Unfortunately, like with many stories romances, one of the characters flees from the relationship for fear of hurting the other even though they’re both madly in love with each other. Aside from that minor annoyance, the storyline was fantastic! It’s not all that unique or innovative but it is certainly very well told and super entertaining.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Marnye Young and Sam Smith. This is my favorite type of audio book, a true duet where the male narrator reads for all of the male characters and the female narrator reads for all of the female character parts. I loved the back-and-forth of the two voices, especially considering how talented both of these narrators are. I’m absolutely certain that their performances enhanced how much I enjoyed this audiobook! There are several characters in this book and both narrators made obvious attempts to alter their voice for each of them, helping listeners differentiate between them all. The only complaint I have about this performance is that there were a few occasions where the production wasn’t perfect. For example, there is one scene where both the narrator’s voices sound muffled and there were a few times where the volume went from high, to low then back to high again. Although this was noticeable, it luckily wasn’t ever too distracting.

Although I didn’t love the slight accent Smith used while reading for Jonah, he does an excellent job with his other parts. Ms. Young on the other hand absolutely blew me away; I have nothing but positive things to say about her flawless, convincing, exceptionally talented performance! I would be very surprised if Young hasn’t had years and years of extensive acting lessons… Her voice just drips with emotion (when necessary and appropriate) and she does things such as slightly chuckle, sigh or pause in all the right places – she’s just amazing!

Everyone approaches BDSM in their own way. Brothers Garrett, Brent, Grant, and Bryce are no different. While each are involved in the BDSM scene in some way, what they want varies. Dominants, submissives, and switches, get to know them as they find love and explore who they are and what they need.

STORIES
#0 The Owners:
If I had purchased this prequel on its own, I would not have purchased any additional installments. Fortunately, I had the entire box set and despite not loving the prequel, I decided to continue listening – I am so glad I did! In this brief introduction to the rest of the series we meet Dominant Connor (owner of BDSM clubs) and his overzealous, in my opinion annoying, sub Ben. Aside from getting a brief glance at these characters, this is pretty much just one BDSM sex scene and not a very descriptive or exciting one. In this story, we are also introduced to 4 brothers and their sidekick who often frequently BDSM club and who star in the remaining installments.

#1 Garrett:
Garrett is an insurance agent and a Dom. Not wanting to risk a sexual harassment lawsuit, he doesn’t initially pursue his attraction for Wyatt, a customer who comes in 3 different times in one week. I really enjoyed the chemistry build up between the two main characters in this book.

#2 Brent:
Brent isn’t your stereotypical submissive. To the contrary, people often assume he is a Doominant. Because of this, he has been struggling to find a partner. Developing more than platonic feelings for one another, Kailin (best friends with the brothers) and Brent begin acting strangely at work so Garrett forces them both to take vacation time. Their mutual forced vacation is the perfect opportunity for them to spend time together...

#3 Grant:
Carter (who works with Wyatt) has a crush on Wyatt’s boyfriend’s brother Grant. Carter likes to dress in women’s clothing, undergarments and wear makeup though so he isn’t sure that strong, ultra masculine Grant will be into that. Oh boy is he! I enjoyed watching Carter overcome his fears; I wish there had been more of that and less sex.

#4 Bryce:
Bryce, a Switch, is captivated Oliver and Troy, a couple he has observed at the BDSM club. Unbeknownst to Bryce, they have noticed him too, eventually resulting in polyamorous relationship. The majority of the story is ménage sex scenes and though they are hot, I would have prefer preferred more substance.

STORIES OVERALL:
I found this whole family/friend dynamic very unlikely and unrealistic. I find it hard to believe that there could be a family containing 4 gay brothers, all of which are into BDSM. In addition to that, their mother is a dominant. Even more hard to believe is the fact that everyone knows this about one another. I have no idea what type of sex my parents or my sibling are into and I don’t want to! With so many different characters I thought I would be confused but Montgomery does a good job of keeping things clear. If you like books with a lot of hot mm BDSM scenes, you will love this collection of stories!!

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kenneth Obi. Immediately I was concerned as it sounds like he wears a retainer or something is in his mouth. Fortunately, I was eventually able to ignore this and focus on the stories. Some of the voices Obi used to portray the characters were fantastic. For example, in book #1 he does a great job of portraying the character’s personalities through their voices (speaking with a very powerful, seductive voice for Garrett and with a timid voice for Wyatt). However, on some occasions, the voices he used were overdone, even comical-sounding. Overall, he does a decent job and though his acting skills could be improved upon, he is definitely not terrible at his job.

STORY
SHOCK JOCK is is a sexy, sweet, basic friends to lovers story. The characters are likable but we don’t know a lot about their histories or backstories. The book is easy read and I enjoyed the portions where the main character worked as a sex therapist radio host but there isn’t any depth to it and aside from one small twist, it’s blatantly predictable.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Thor Tom and Charley Ongel. I had an extremely difficult time listening to this audiobook and literally quit twice. 98% of the time I was cringing at what was the worst acting I’ve ever heard.

When I first heard the narrators voices, I was thrilled to hear that this was more than dual narration but is a production which someone has edited so the male and female narrator’s voices toggle back-and-forth (rather than the male narrator reading one chapter and the female reading another). The producers did a phenomenal job of piecing the narrator’s voices together – it’s impossible to tell where their portions were stitched together! I was also extremely impressed with Mr. Tom’s radio host portions; at times it was like listening to an actual radio show! Tom often sounds like an excited game show host which is a perfect fit for portraying a radio disc jockey yet his overeagerness didn’t work during non-dialogue portions! When Tom wasn’t pretending to host a radio show, his acting was atrocious! For example, “she said“ does not need to be stated with vast amounts of enthusiasm. Sadly, the same is true for Ms. Ongel. Even while listening at double the speed, it was apparent that both narrators were reading, speaking in choppy, broken sentences which made their performances far from believable. If these two get some more acting training, I think they could be amazing one day but I won’t be listening to any more audiobooks narrated by them until they do.

In truth, she couldn’t care less about the men she dates; she prefers women when it comes to sex. However, when it comes to making money, she’s perfected the perfect con game, luring wealthy men to cheap hotels where she teases the mark with her girl-next-door sex-appeal, then drugs them, robs them and splits before they even know what hit them.

STORY
Yes, I saw the low ratings but I was hoping that people had read/listened to this book and found it too dark, unfairly underrating it. Unfortunately, the ratings are indicative of the quality of the quality.

I love dark erotica, especially stories about human trafficking. This book has almost all of the elements necessary to be a 5-star story including kidnapping, sexy slave training, sex scenes between m/f and f/f, BDSM, rape, forced orgasms, voyeurism, public humiliation and more. However, it’s missing the most important factors: a developed character, a meaningful storyline and an actual ending. Aside from telling us that she is a lesbian, we know absolutely nothing about Krissy! Lewis never tells us anything about her personality, her history/backstory and told in third person, Lewis never tells us what is going on in Krissy‘s head. Sure, we hear her crying in pain and resisting punishments but we never hear what she thinks about any of the precarious situations she’s in. Aside from her being captured and turned into a slave, nothing else happens to Krissy. There’s no moral to the story, no premise, nothing! And worst of all was the ending: story just ends suddenly. Very, very disappointing.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Natalie Bernadette. It was quite confusing as Ms. Bernadette speaks with a British accent while Narrating non-dialogue portions then speaks with an various accents while reading as the characters primarily American. She’s very versatile, pulling off many believable voices as well as being able to pull off variety of male voices. By the end, I still wasn’t certain which was her true accent! Unfortunately, her acting skills are lacking; she’s not horrible though! With more experience and perhaps some additional training, she could really be a stellar performer!

CRYSTAL QUEEN is more a collection of chapters rather than a complete, “book”. For me, this collection of chapters served to lure me unto the exciting storyline only to cut off prematurely, eager for more. From a financial perspective, I can’t fault the author for doing this yet as a reader, it is infuriating! Without judging what a tease this, “book“ was, I have to admit that I was fascinated by the drug addicted character’s chaotic behavior and felt their fear as they ran for their lives. CRYSTAL QUEEN is well written and engaging.

PERFORMANCE

Ms. Masters never once read but acted everything out, putting on a stellar performance that was extremely believable. I will definitely be seeking out more audiobooks narrated by Ramona Master!

STORY
RAGE is the story of a 13 year old boy with the worst life imaginable and one thing I can promise you is that Kimberly Bettes does a fantastic job of making us feel sorry for him! My heart ached for this character as he was bullied, tortured, raped and neglected day after day after day.

"Which was the lesser of two evils? He could stay home and be raped and beaten or go to school and be broken down and humiliated in front of everyone".

This story could have and should have been told in less pages. Ms. Bettes could have more succinctly illustrated how terrible the main character's life was. Rather than keeping the book brief though, she literally spent almost 7 hours giving example after example of how horrible this character's life was, eventually to the point of it becoming redundant. Not only was I disappointed by the slow progression of the story and how much time was spent building up to the, "RAGE" that inevitably would strike, I thought that the ending was very anti-climactic. I've read other books by Bettes so I know for a fact that she is capable of delivering better.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Rick Gregory. Even though I listened at 1.5 speed, I still found myself wanting to speed up the recording most of the time as Mr. Gregory constantly paused between words. The silence between words inadvertently and repeatedly caused single sentences to sound like they had been broken up into multiple sentences. For example, when Gregory read the following sentence it sounded like this (like 2 sentences), "Brian consider throwing away the crackers but he knew what it was like to be hungry. And have little food to eat". I would have sped the audiobook up even more to accommodate for this yet Gregory did not pause between words when reading character dialogue; if I had been sped the audiobook up even more, I would not have been able to understand the dialogue portions. Presumably with more experience, Mr. Gregory will learn to speak more seamlessly, hopefully not leaving gaps between words as this did become very distracting.

STORY
Being a lover of dark erotica, I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook then HUGELY disappointed with what I heard! This first installment, "He's About To Learn What Real Punishment Is Like" is a very misleading title and not a complete book but just a few chapters foreshadowing what author Eli Harder will hopefully have in store for us later in the series. In this, "book", there is no punishment, no BDSM, no sex, no nothing! Simply put, only three things happen:
- The main character is presented with the option of entering this specialized jail program.
- We read the program manual along with the main character.
- The main character signs up for the program.

When I began listening to this book, I was expecting to hear BDSM fiction; the last thing I expected or wanted to listen to was nonfiction-like material but surprisingly, that's what 95% of this book is. The longest chapter in this book is titled, "the manual" and that is precisely what it is: a manual. For over an hour (literally 1/3 of the book), the narrator reads the program manual to us, every boring word for word. Even though the manual discusses torture equipment, genitals and other topics that you'll probably never find in a prison manual, it quickly became painfully monotonous. If I hadn't received this book for free, I most definitely would have skimmed through most of this chapter. Eli Harder did succeed in one major way though.... I now feel compelled to purchase the rest of the series so I can find out what happens next!

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Maxx Power. Overall, Mr. Power did an adequate job. Most of the time he was tasked with reading, "the manual" where all he had to do was read (not having to deliver any type of performance) yet during the brief periods of time that he did have to speak for the characters, he did slightly change his cadence, exude emotion, etc..

STORY:
***The following review contains numerous spoilers ***
If I had not received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review, I would have quit listening to it prior to reaching the halfway point. I say this because the storyline was just way too unrealistic. In the beginning, the book had tons of potential. The female main character, Charlotte, was very interesting; a stripper from an abusive family could certainly make for a very interesting character! Raymond, the male main character was much more convoluted though. He too was raised by an abusive mother yet his character was left undeveloped, his situation unclear, leaving readers with many unanswered questions. When Raymond abducts Charlotte though, the storyline rapidly spiraled down into Alice in Wonderland bizarreness and unlikelihood:
-Charlotte is held in a setting that resembles what she had always dreamed of.
-Within minutes of meeting her abductor for the first time she's having pleasurable sex with him.
-Raymond lives in a mansion with, "servants" who want to kill him, in a home so large that he doesn't know were these servants live/work/hide?
-Raymond's servants apparently have some, "contract" therefore they continue to work for him yet do so begrudgingly (some of them doing so while intoxicated).
-Despite this not being a paranormal story, there's also voodoo, pentagrams, etc..

Overall, I felt that there was too much haphazardly put together too quickly. With more editing, perhaps all of this could be fleshed out but as it is now, it's too convoluted and unrealistic.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the audio book narrated by Lacy Laurel and Logan McAllister. Although Mr. McAllister is far from one of the best narrators I've ever listened to, he was not the worst either. The female narrator Lacy Laurel already possesses a naturally husky, raspy voice (which would have been well suited for voices of the male characters) yet for some reason, instead of taking on a deeper tone of voice, Laurel elected to use an extremely whiny, nasally voice when speaking as secondary male characters. I was disappointed by that as well as with the way she struggled with the flow of her sentences, speaking in a very choppy manner. For example, one sentence sounded like four separate sentences when she read the following: "He lit a gas lamp in the front corners near the ceiling. And something like fragrant smoke was moving through the air. Emitted by what looked like a hanging plate. That hung in the center of the room."

STORY
I tend to shy away from short stories as they rarely include a beginning, middle and an end (three factors I consider necessary for a story to be labeled a, "book"). Although this book contains a beginning and a thorough middle, it's different in that the ending is, "fade to black". I thought that the way this book ended was intriguing, forcing listeners/readers to create their own ending yet without leaving us hanging on a disappointing cliffhanger.

Despite its brevity, I had no difficulty imagining each of the characters and thought that the story was well written. I was impressed with the way Ms. Hart paced the storyline, creating just the right amount of suspense before reaching an extremely exciting, sizzling-hot sex scene. I look forward to reading more books by Roxy Hart!

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Xanthia Bloom. In the past, I've always sped my audiobooks up to 1.25 or 1.5 times the normal speed yet Bloom's performance was recorded at just the right speed for me so no adjusting was needed! Most of the time, Ms. Bloom spoke with a very thick British accent yet she demonstrated the ability to speak with a very believable American accent when needed too. She never, "read" but truly became the characters, putting emotion into her voice when appropriate. There was some extra production work added to this performance (2 voices simultaneously speaking on two occasions) which added to the uniqueness of this recording. The only negative I noted during this performance was an air conditioner/fan like sound switching on and off several times. Luckily, this background noise was very minimal and did not impact how much I enjoyed the audiobook.

STORY:
STOLEN BREATHS is a rated G new adult romance. It's sugary-sweet with characters who never have an argument and a female main character in her 20s who still calls her father her, "daddy". When I realized this was not a tale of insta-love but that there was a darker history between the main characters, I became hopeful yet the author didn't flesh that part of the story out. It was disappointing that this this portion of the storyline was not expanded on as it would've made for a more unique, exciting storyline IMO.

On occasion I wondered if I had missed a part, rewinding the audiobook only to learn that I hadn't missed anything but the author had jumped ahead. For example, we don't get any details about is important wedding ceremony, just what happens before and after. Otherwise, this book is well edited and well written.

PERFORMANCE:
I listened to the Audible audiobook version narrated by Corrie Legge. Ms Legge's performance was refreshing and idiosyncratic, her voice was different from any other narrator I've heard. I say this because Legge has an extremely youthful, genuine voice which was ideal for portraying the female mc who still referred to her father as her, "daddy". I was pleasantly surprised when Ms. Legge used a slightly more mature voice while reading as the grandmother character then disappointed when there was no discernible difference in her voice while she spoke for the male characters. Although her performance was not that of an obviously seasoned actress, it was still high-quality and I would definitely listen to more of her audiobooks in the future!
