After years as a black ops CIA agent, nothing surprises Roy Kincaid, yet his current assignment is close to a bust. Burnt out and discouraged, he hunches over a meal in a backwater diner, when a half-frozen woman with the look of an abused runaway staggers through the door. His first instinct is to help her, make certain she stays long enough for the bluish cast to leave her lips. His second is to finish his meal and leave. The world is full of broken women. It's not his job to fix them.

This was a fun series to listen to. It starts with the CIA going after some rogue enhanced super soldiers only to find that there are enhanced females being held against their will. The series follows the danger surrounding these females and the men they fall in love with. Action-packed series and I loved it!

If you have read any of Ann Gimpel's books you know how she loves to spin worlds where magical beings clash together and sometimes fall in love. This is an entertaining series following the last three remaining demon assassin witches, Colleen, Roz, and Jenna and their eventual Sidhe love interests while they face a rising evil in the world. Holly Jackson did a wonderful job with the narration on the series and I really enjoyed it all.

A poor route choice strands Alice - lost, hungry, and scared - next to Lon Chaney's cabin the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When Jed melts out of the shadowed darkness, she adds him to her list of problems. At first, she declines his offer of help, but he keeps talking until she ends up inside a cozy log cabin in front of a roaring fire. His skilled hands and a shot of whiskey heat her blood to molten, and her carefully tended world explodes into desperate hunger.

This is a very steamy listen set in California in the 1930s. The storyline had a unique feel to it that makes it stand out from many other shifter stories. Gregory Salinas has the sexiest voice and plays the male roles to perfection.

Germany, 1940. Magic runs strong in Ilona, a gypsy seer. Powerful ability isn't valued in Romani women, so she focuses her fortunetelling on inconsequential details. Nothing that could come back to haunt her caravan if a prediction went bad. Rounded up and dumped in Dachau prison camp, she has plenty of time to rue her decision to downplay her ability. If she'd taken the time to scry her own future, she'd still be free.

First, let me say you need to listen to book 1 of this series to properly enjoy this one. You won't be sorry.
When I realized book 2 was going to center around Jamal, I wasn't certain I was going to be able to like it because I hadn't forgiven him from book 1 for his treatment of Tairin. However, the author did a wonderful job showing how time can heal old wounds and how people (or Shifters) can grow and learn from their mistakes. In the end, you end up rooting for him and all of Shifter / Gypsy groups that are standing up to the Nazis and the vampires.
This was a wonderful addition to this series and I really enjoyed it.

Wow! What a great start to a series. You get both the prequel and Book 1 of this series with this audio. I was very grateful for the prequel because it really set the stage for all of the magical creatures involved. You got to see the history of Tairin and I was just heartbroken for the 13 year old. Book 1 Introduces you to the Shifters and gypsies who are stuck in Germany during the Nazi regime and their battle against evil even as they war amongst themselves. I highly recommend this listen!

The fun part about this series is that you have no idea what you are going to get. All of these stories involve very capable women who are comfortable in the wilderness and the men that fall in love with them. However, that is the end of the similarities or connection. This story involves spirit guides, Shamans, and dragons.... yes dragons. The story wasn't one of my favorites of hers but as usual Ann Gimpel is an excellent author whose descriptions and knowledge of the great outdoors is out of this world and it was an entertaining listen.

If you enjoy romance stories where the woman is just as capable as the man, these three stories are for you. First, let me say that these books are not really attached to one another. They are completely separate experiences. Each is a about skilled women who can easily survive in the wilderness on their own. Each comes across some supernatural experience ( evil Shaman, disgraced god, and even aliens) where they must fight to survive. During these trials, they meet or run into past lovers who quickly claim their hearts. I enjoyed listening to these stories. I have to say that the author really brings her love and experience of the back country into these books. They are very descriptive when it comes to survival and adventures in the wilderness.
