Olivia and her twin sister, Viola, have been dragged around the universe for as long as they can remember. Their parents, both xenobiologists, are always in high demand for their research into obscure alien biology. Just settled on a new colony world, they discover an alien threat unlike anything they’ve ever seen. And suddenly, the sisters’ world is ripped apart. On the run from terrifying aliens, Olivia’s knowledge of xenobiology and determination to protect her sister are her only weapons as the colony collapses into chaos.

I love Alien (Love!), but you can only go on so many bug hunts. Mira Grant proves that you can set a whole host of new stories in the world of Alien. It's about time someone did a love story (and if there have been other love stories that I've missed, please let me know!). The story was so refreshing, and wonderfully (and patiently) written. Whenever you visit the Alien-verse, you know peoples are gonna die, but I found myself on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out the fates of so many of these great new characters (please don't kill 'em all, Mira!). Olivia is now my new favourite Alien hero, taking her place beside Amanda (who needs her own damn movie, already!) and of course Ripley. I can only hope we get to find out more about her in future books.
