I love when authors narrate their books, it allows me to really get to know the author. This audio was very good. I took tons of clips and made mental notes throughout this whole thing. Had funny parts in there too.

"My name is 'J' and I'm awkward--and black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?" Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert--whether she's navigating love, work, friendships, or rapping--it sure is entertaining.

I enjoyed listening with audible and following along with the book. If I didn’t have audible, I wouldn’t like this as much.

There’s times where the narrator speaks Spanish. Without audible I wouldn’t even know how to begin pronouncing it.

I didn’t like that the book was written in verse. And for her to be a poet, when she was doing the slams, i would like to know what piece she performed.

The reason why I give the story a 4 stars and the performance 3 stars is because tho I enjoyed the writing and how it kept me engaged, there were times that I disliked the treatment Alexa had with her husband and felt like both characters couldn’t really act like that with the circumstances that surrounded them.

The way Alexa talked to her husband so rudely but when her mother in law offered the same thing, she met her MIL with kindness.

Storyline overall was good but I don’t think this would be on the list to re-read in the future.

I love a good suspenseful story. So I knew in the beginning the doctor died and was excited to see how and why. Throughout the pages though, the story line of the clients dragged on and on.

There was one client that I felt was guilty but the plot twist was a very short description on what happened for the book to be about the loves of the client. The last chapter was confusing to me as well.
