After Emery Hazard loses his job as a detective in Saint Louis, he heads back to his hometown - and to the local police force there. Home, though, brings no happy memories. Hazard's new partner, John-Henry Somerset, had been one of the worst tormentors, and Hazard still wonders what Somerset's role was in the death of Jeff Langham, Hazard's first boyfriend. When a severely burned body is discovered, Hazard finds himself drawn deeper into the case than he expects. Determining the identity of the dead man proves impossible, and solving the murder grows more and more unlikely.

This book is made better by a great narrator. The story was fine, but not good enough to get the next in the series. It just didn’t hold my attention that well.

Retiring from stealing priceless treasures seemed like a surefire way for Rook Stevens to stay on the right side of the law. The only cop in his life should have been his probably-boyfriend, Los Angeles Detective Dante Montoya, but that's not how life - his life - is turning out. Instead, Rook ends up not only standing in a puddle of his cousin Harold's blood but also being accused of Harold's murder...and sleeping with Harold's wife.

I only recently started listening to Rhys Ford books and I have to say this series is my favorite. She’s so talented.
My heart broke in the middle when Rook is confronted with something that reminds him of the trauma in his life. And can I just squeal, holy moly that ending. Def a set up for more to come.
The narration is great. Greg Tremblay is wonderful. He really brought the characters to life.

I enjoyed the amount of character development that happened due to all the talking but I don’t know if everyone will like that this is a dialogue heavy story. I enjoyed all the characters.
The narration was ok, completely average.

*Spoiler Follows*

I hated the way Bo acted when he found out his eldest brother is gay. I was seething 😤 on his behalf. To keep it hidden, ok that sucks but to find out he didn’t even tell Bo when he made his relationship permanent. Argh. Hidden boyfriend sucks but to leave his brother out of something so momentous. And Bo was so chill about it. Seriously! I get that these characters tend to be cerebral but my god man, show more emotion. I can’t believe the author wrote it that way. Just, ugh!😑
Sorry. I had to rant.

Seriously, who edits these things bc this is a huge mistake.

This was a great book. It’s been awhile since I heard the last book so I had forgotten that Ward Security is a spin-off of the Unbreakable Bonds series. A few characters are mentioned so I had to refresh myself. You don’t need it to get this book but it adds another layer to knowing these guys. I’m super bummed that those books aren’t in audiobook form. I am keeping my fingers crossed that someday the powers that be decide to make that happen. Ok, enough of a rant.
Royce is a bodyguard with a shady past who ends up protecting an art dealer who keeps having attempts on his life. The difference between these two’s backgrounds makes an interesting play for them falling in love.
Kennath Obi is great as usual. He’s def one of my favorite narrators.

I don't need anyone's protection. I'm fine. But to appease my sister after a home invasion, I agree to take self-defense lessons. They just so happen to be with a big, muscled former navy SEAL who may or may not be everything I've always daydreamed about but never thought I could have. And he's dead set on looking out for me even when things in my life suddenly get complicated. Between the increasing threats against me and pressure from my wealthy family to be someone I'm not, I'm having a hard time keeping it together.

Jules and Priest have such tragic backstories and horrible family situations so it’s nice to see them enveloped into Robbie’s big Italian family.
This book was a sweet ending to the series.
Charlie David is again excellent as the narrator. I love Ella Frank and he brings her words to life. They have been a great team for all her audiobooks.
The first MM book I read was Try, with Tate and Logan’s story. It’s been a great joy to get to know all the men in Ella Frank’s world. I truly recommend hearing them all. Not only are they all great stories but they are 🔥🔥🔥

There are a tease of several characters who express interest in the BDSM club so fingers crossed 🤞 that one of them will be in another book. I’m seriously praying for Aiden’s story, the oh so mysterious youngest McCade brother.
