I have absolutely loved some of her earlier books, particularly ones with Jackson Brody, and even the more esoteric Life after Life. This book failed to catch my interest early on, and though I tried and tried I could not get into it. Have to return.

Very informative. Interesting—now I know why my mom—her contemporary—liked her so much. Very strong & brave in her youth—I guess her unfaithful husband made her bitter later in life.

No thanks!

I prefer a good narrator; not a zillion over-the-top sound effects. Tried, but couldn’t listen for more than seven minutes. Yuk.

Good action and interesting characters and setting. I have not liked the western star, because as an audiobook it was difficult to figure out what was going on with the back-and-forth in time. Could I have missed something in the last couple chapters about this major bad guy? I did find this book interesting, althoughIt would have been better for me to have had some sort of prologue To bring me up to speed on the bad guy and the war between him and wild. I’ve read every book in the series, and enjoy the unusual study New Mexico. That’s not to say I don’t love Wyoming and all those characters.

Another great story

I couldn't believe how the female characters all came across as irritating and dim--even his sidekick, Alex. There was also too much exposition as Amos had to explain everything to everyone...a disappointment. Orlagh Cassidy's voices all sounded the same, or weird. Disappointing.

Love the character development, quirky characters, and intrepid children that populate this Jury novel. Her characters are so wonderfully drawn, and multi-dimensional. It's such a pleasure to read an intelligent author whose characters aren't whiney!

Steve West does an excellent job with almost all (the many) voices.

Intelligent writing, witty, top-notch!

After being disappointed in other authors I had previously liked, I went back to one of Martha Grimes' Richard Jury books--what a difference in class, charm, witticisms, and character development! What a pleasure to read. I'm only sorry that I've read almost all of these books!

I knew I shouldn't get this as it seemed like just a romance. I couldn't get far enough into it to even care about the characters.

This was historical fiction, and done quite well. It wasn't supernatural or quite far fetched like some of his fiction, and it was interesting, full of drama and action, and moreover, full of factual tidbits. It had a main character I could relate to, at least as soon as he got his head screwed on straight.
