Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a best-selling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. This is not a Christmas story. It's just a story that takes place at Christmas time. Very depressing, no romance, no action, no communication between the characters. I would not recommend using audible credit for this book especially if you are looking for a Christmas story. No presents opened, no gifts given or received, no Christmas carols nothing. Just depressing issues and sad situations. No hope, no cheer. I stand Corrected the last 15 minutes of the whole book was hope so I give it 2 stars.

The writing is wonderful. I enjoyed the pace of the book up until I DNF. I like a good hot story but to me this was too much sex and not enough story. I did not finish this book. I couldn't feel anything good towards the female main character. She's just bitter & mean and once I thought she might grow up she brought out a joint. This is my first book by this author. Her writing is really good I guess this just wasn't the story for me.

Hazel lives with her brother, Ben, in the strange town of Fairfold where humans and fae exist side by side. The faeries' seemingly harmless magic attracts tourists, but Hazel knows how dangerous they can be, and she knows how to stop them. Or she did, once. At the center of it all, there is a glass coffin in the woods. It rests right on the ground and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointy as knives. Hazel and Ben were both in love with him as children. The boy has slept there for generations, never waking.
