Casey Duncan, Rockton's only detective on a police force of three, has already faced murder, arson, and falling in love in the several months she's lived there. Yet even she didn't think it would be possible for an outsider to locate the town and cause trouble in the place she's come to call home. When a US marshal shows up demanding the release of one of the residents but won't say who, Casey and her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, are skeptical. And yet only hours later, the marshal is shot dead, and the only possible suspects are the townspeople and Casey's estranged sister....

You have to really listen to the story line to understand the background of who the bad guy is.It is confusing at first when the bad guy shows up at the end of some of the chapters but once you figure that out all the bits and pieces it falls together. It's not a religious cult but more like a Scientology cult mindset. Not much cussing and not any detailed porn sex that goes on for chapters. Liked the plots and story line twists and turns. It may not be for everybody.

Long, slow and boring listen/read. I was hoping for a great book but this is not for me. The narrator talks like he has a speech impairment, at least to my ears. Gave it 13 chapters then skipped to the last 2 chapters to see how it ended. Nothing special there. Not worth a credit or cash money. If you buy for kids then beware that there is cussing in the story, and mature subject matter that you may not want to introduce your young one's too just yet

It was my first read by this author and I found that there were too many characters and sub plots lines to follow. Which made for confusion. Maybe because it was the 6th book in the series and didn't know who was who. Not something I would listen to again as it took too many chapters in between to get back to the story line to see what happened. Lot of fuller about other people who really didn't have much to do with the plot. The narrator had a nice voice though. Didn't care for how the police handled the 13 yrs old and left her alone for hours when they took her father in for questioning. Didn't care for the politics either. The author was just not for me, other,s may enjoy her series though

I enjoyed this book for what would be brutal honesty about how we as humans can react to issue's of childhood rejection, abandonment, trauma's through dysfunctional families. It deals with issue's of mental illness and how it affects people's life's. It had many twist's and unexpected turns in most every chapter. Glad I took a chance on reading it. But it may not be for everyone

This was an excellent plot. It kept you guessing until almost the end.
The narrator has a nice voice but failed in carrying out the voice of men. She did do good on the Russian man though.
It had all the ingredients of thriller, mystery, suspense. Though it is a long listen you didn't get bored because there was always something happening that you wanted to see how it played out.
