Long before the New Testament was a document, it was a sacrament. Jesus called the Eucharist by the name Christians subsequently gave to the latter books of the Holy Bible. It was the "New Covenant," the "New Testament," in his blood. Christians later extended the phrase to cover the books produced by the apostles and their companions; but they did so because these were the books that could be read at Mass.

Fear. Worry. Discontent. No wonder we get so weary. We're worn out from carrying that excess baggage. Wouldn't it be nice to lose some of those bags? That's the invitation of Max Lucado. With the 23rd Psalm as our guide, let's release some of the burdens we were never intended to bear.

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.

You can believe the Bible. Without any doubt. As American society becomes more secularized, Christians need to know all the facts about the Bible. Dr. Grant R. Jeffrey has spent decades researching history, science, archaeology, medicine, and prophecy - finding that each discipline confirms the truth of Scripture.

This book is very well written. Unfortunately it gets into doctrine that is contrary to Catholic teaching. Therefore it limits its ability to be used by ALL Christians. For example, there is no need to go into whether Jesus did or did not have a brother. That is irrelevant to the message in this book and goes against the Virginity of our Mother Mary. I hope a future edition would be done so that it allows for ALL of us to learn from it and is based on the things that unite us but not include the things that separate us. We are all one body in Christ our Lord.
