Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

this was my first David Mitchell read and I completely fell in love with it. It's crisp, alluring and scary.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Slade House?

The continuing circle of demise, I don't want to give anything away, but it brought everything together. Don't go in was on my lips with each new period.

What does Thomas Judd and Tania Rodrigues bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They blended so well. I looked forward to hearing then again. Neither was better than the other.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had to turn the lights on.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book, the narration is spot on.

What would have made Forsaken: Book One of the Shadow Cove Saga better?

I can't say what would improved this, it felt off, it felt disjointed and the narration was all over the place, it was hard to concentrate on the story.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something with a better focus on story and character

How did the narrator detract from the book?

the voices where scratchy, the gender was too forced

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

i'm afraid not, I would not recommend this book at all

Any additional comments?

disappointed as the blurred hyped it up.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A complete rewrite perhaps. The story does not run well. There is little emotion in the characters and the telling doesn't help.

What was most disappointing about Jane Johnson’s story?

The story itself. Simply put, it was boring.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Lee and Susan Duerden ?

I have no idea.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

None. There is no emotion in this book. It's words, but they lead no where.

Any additional comments?

I would not go back for me. I tried for several months but I could only listen to about 5 minutes before boredom set it.

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved this book when it first came out and so when my book club chose it I was excited to read it again....or listen to it as I thought a change of venue would be nice. I was wrong. While the story was as good as every and great to revisit, Julia Whelan's voice was so grating, so annoying that I had to forward past her. Kirby Heyborned more than made up for it. I ended up reading "Amy's" parts and listening to "Nick's" part.

What did you like best about this story?

The unreliable narration and how brilliantly that is done gets me every time with this book.

Any additional comments?

Julia Whelan's voice, in particular her long sssss's got on my last nerve. It completely ruined the audible experience for me I'm afraid.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Disappointed though I know there is more to come. I was happy to have it over.

What aspect of Seán Barrett’s performance would you have changed?

He was excellent

Did The Bones of Avalon inspire you to do anything?

Sleep

Any additional comments?

It lingered for too long, it could have done with a kick up the backside.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sharp Objects to be better than the print version?

While it's the first Gillian Flynn's novels, It's the last one I've read. It didn't reach the dizzying heights of Girl Gone or Dark Places, but it's still a wonderful novel with fast pacing and brilliant narration.

What other book might you compare Sharp Objects to and why?

Dark Places. The MC is not as well developed as Libby Day in Dark Places, but she's definitely up there in status.

Which character – as performed by Liza Ross – was your favorite?

The MC, Camille

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many, but in the bath, her mother poisoning her and the moment she's almost given up and comes to the realisation of everything that has happened.

The father. I love belligerent, ignorant characters that get their just desserts.

Long after I should have been asleep I was still listening to this audiobook and that doesn't often happen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Frank Belgium. His character arc was excellent and he added the all important bit of humour that broke the tension at the right moments.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I would. The only voice that annoyed me was Race. I could have done with out so much gravel. The voice of Bud was brilliant.
