having read every book leading up to this one, I was deeply disappointed by how pointless and meandering the plot was. I would have remained a fan, had I quit two books ago.

I enjoyed the Original Series so much I wanted to give this a try but I was very disappointed. The pace of the story is very inconsistent. At times, grape lapses of time are described in a few sentences, making me wonder if this is an Abridged version. At other times, unnecessary Side Stories are described in so much detail I felt like forwarding.

Elmore Leonard manages once again to create marginal characters that feel so real that the reader finds himself rooting for the lowlife and the crooked. Even though I would have loved to see the protagonist live happily ever after, the unresolved ending ended up being more satisfying than a neatly wrapped up story line.
