War heroes aren't usually called out of semi-retirement and sent to the far reaches of the galaxy for a routine investigation. So when Colonel Carl Butler answers the call from an old and powerful friend, he knows it's something big - and he's not being told the whole story. A high councilor's son has gone MIA out of Cappa Base, the space station orbiting a battle-ravaged planet. The young lieutenant had been wounded and evacuated - but there's no record of him having ever arrived at hospital command.

After finishing the story, I’m still confused as to what the big mystery is. The ending is anti-climatic and doesn’t really explain the whole picture. I liked the writing style and enjoyed the setting but I still feel that I wasted time listening to it. The only reason this story carried any weight is due to R.C. Bray’s fantastic narration.

When the Imperial prison barge Purge - temporary home to 500 of the galaxy's most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves - breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a star destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back - bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

I enjoyed the twists and turns the story took. I enjoyed the character development. Some deaths took me by surprise. The sound effects for the most were enjoyable. However the low hum for the first hour or so can be headache inducing. I enjoyed the dialogue the most when it was amplified with the music done by John Williams. Overall a great story and amazing performance by the narrator. 3 stars overall for overuse of sound effects.

Most people would be overjoyed to win $50,000 and the chance to star in a nation-wide commercial, even if it was just for a fast food joint like Camelot Burger. Then again, Clint Tucker has never been like most people. Ushered to the tropical paradise of Kenowai, he and the other winners undertake an island tradition for the cameras, one meant to free a local imprisoned deity. One with very specific requirements that have yet to be met. One that might just be a bit more authentic than any of them expected.

For Riley and his friends, Sigil Online has never been more real. With the latest expansion, pain has been enabled and will now affect all players in-game. Aptly named "Hellions", the expansion introduces monsters, but not the kind that paragons have been fighting for the past several years. This time, players can be the monsters they once sought to destroy. But in a game where playing means having the money to survive in the real world, what will Riley do when death in the game doesn't just mean an end to his character, but an end to his life?

Overall I enjoyed the story. However the ending felt rushed. I’m grateful that it got written though with the author’s health issues. I really enjoyed the growth of Alex and him learning to overcome his faults. As someone who has listened to this series from the beginning, you can tell the author is getting better at his craft. I’m looking forward to book 6.
In regards to Kirby Heyborne, the narration was enjoyable(even with a Russian accent for a dragon)
If they plan on this narrator for further books, they should rerelease the first 4 with him as well.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This could have been better if there wasn't a movie or book reference every few minutes.

What could J. A. Cipriano and J. B. Garner have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Less time quoting movies and cursing and more time using the English language to build a world and characters that you want to spend time with. Which is sad because I know J.A. Cipriano can write as his ring of promise book is very well written.

Any additional comments?

This book is simple, you will either love it or hate it.

I like strong female characters, however every time Chris got into a life or death situation (which are many due to her stubbornness and stupidity) I was hoping for her death. The side characters are better written and would make more interesting main characters. The world building was great. I love the dual nature that is in shifters and the narrator is fantastic in bringing the wolves to life.
