Five days ago, aspiring crime novelist Jason Swike awoke chained to the wall of a run-down horse stable, convinced he would soon die at the hands of Crackerjack, the infamous serial killer who had terrorized the residents of Massachusetts for the past year - capturing and tormenting men, painting whimsical designs on their faces before shattering their bones and ending their lives. Just when death seems inevitable, Jason, with the help of another captive, manages to kill the madman and escape.

Obviously some parts of the story were overwhelming but a fun and long great listen. Performance was first class. Really fell in love with the characters and the depth created for them was remarkable. The only negative is the depth of details of the work which would at times numb my mind and make me travel elsewhere but that could just be me. One of the best audio books I’ve experienced.

Over several decades, Baer served as an operative, from Iraq to New Delhi and beyond; notably, his career was the model for the acclaimed movie Syriana.

I think as a whole I would say that I really enjoyed this audio book. The narration was well done, I thought the addition of a female narrator was a bit much but I became accustomed to it by the end. The story was good as a whole but seemed a bit much and went somewhat long at certain points. I loved the main character and his story and would recommend the audio book as it was truly an easy listen.

Great listen but seems very light on information towards the end. Early on they seemed, if true, to have first hand knowledge of the ins and outs of the story then towards the end the information seemed loose and weaker as they were not feed direct information from someone close to the situation. Liked it very much but felt it fell apart towards the end.

What are Upstanders? Let's start with this: They are the opposite of bystanders. They are problem solvers and protestors, students and parents, professionals and civic leaders. Some fight injustice; others fearlessly challenge the status quo. They are ordinary people who are making extraordinary differences in their communities and beyond. From Salt Lake City to Memphis to Baltimore, Upstanders remind us that participation in civic life has no bounds - and that we can all be the change we wish to see in the world.
