With his dying breath, Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism and Jude Brandon's final link to terrorist ringleader Max Huber, gives Brandon a mandate: to keep his daughter, Rachel, safe at any cost. I don’t know if it’s just the performance, slow beginning, or the whole package, but I couldn’t force myself to be interested beyond the first hour. I tried over different days/moods to see if it was just me. However, I just didn’t feel it worth delving further.

The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor: Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan. Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must believe Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth: there will, without a doubt, be a war.

I was excited to listen to the new book, but found myself having trouble following along, as the same days dragged on. Surprisingly slow, it seems as if we spend 15 hours over a course of mere days, without anything of significance to show for it. Performance aside, I find myself hesitant to finish this one, wondering if it’d make a difference if I skipped it altogether.
