One thing has become perfectly clear: The Mages’ Guild won’t stop coming for me until I am either under their control or dead. So rather than wait to be cornered... I’m going to take the fight to them. But Emery and I can’t do it alone. We have to assemble enough power in the magical world to rip the Guild off of their high horse. And to do that, we’ll need the shifters as well as the vampires. Except, shifters and vampires would rather kill each other than work together. And after a surprise run-in with a strangely powerful goblin, my world is slapped sideways.

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. What a great first novel by AJ Finn! A reworking of Rear Window in a modern day Psychologists' traumatized near psychosis. As the heroine fights for her own sanity, she is confronted by a murder she witnesses, but there is no body.
Definitely well paced enjoyable read!

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen. I've been accused of attacking the queen, my wicked stepmother, and my life is suddenly on the line. I have only two options left to me: banishment, or training to become one of the King's Elite Guards, an Ender. Option one will kill me. I do enjoy this series. It is a solid Scifi fantasy concept with dual worlds, super power struggles and mythical beings. It's a very fun "otherworldly" design, set in merry old England.

However, I am starting to find the scenes to be too long. Sadly characters are being killed off that could have been maintained for connection later. And in the audio portion of the book, "cavalry" is consistently mispronounced as "cav-lary" to distraction.
