The storyline and narration were good, but this book left me wanting for a little more excitement. The ending was also a little strange and somewhat abrupt with how the mystery unfolded.

Stop reading and spend that credit!!
I've been in love with these stories, characters, and JK's incredible way with words since the beginning. I have all the books, seen all the movies, and have been to Harry Potter World at Universal. But a person has not fully and completely experienced the true magic of these stories until you've listened to Jim Dale read them to you. I can't say enough about the talent Mr. Dale possesses. He, like JK Rowling, is a master at his craft, and when their two amazing talents collide, it makes me believe that real magic just might exist.

I loved the story and narrator was awesome. Her voice and tone really helped lend a hand to building the characters. I love the writers work too. This book is funny, curious, and a fun tale to follow.

This book has something for everyone! It has a fast paced plot that includes fantasy, romance, action, suspense, mystery, and historical fiction. The narrator was excellent especially considering the many accents that were required for the characters.

I wrote to the author on her Facebook page and she wrote me back almost immediately! Good news for anyone else who enjoyed this book!

Me: Just finished your book which I purchased from audible.com
I was hooked right away and thought the narrator was wonderful in further bringing the characters to life. I'm so glad to read there's going to be a second book! I was wondering if you were thinking of writing a series? I hope so!!! This is what i have been looking for since Twilight and Harry Potter. I especially love what the true historical parts bring to the story. It helps make the story come to life! Thank you! :)

Deborah Harkness: There will be two more books--and I agree that Jennifer Ikeda is fantastic. I've been listening to it as I travel and it's brought the whole book back to life for me, too.

The only thing I wish was different about this book is that, at times, I wish the story would slow down and go into more depth, especially about some of the historical aspects of this book. Perhaps an illustrated version would be available someday? :)

This book was okay. I was really excited to listen to it based upon the description. I liked the general idea of the plot but just found it lacking in some parts. I think I was looking for a little more excitement rather than detective work.

I thought the narrators did a nice job and enjoyed learning more about lexicography. If you are interested in learning about how a dictionary is created and enjoy a mystery, you'll like this book.

Something Different

It's hard to say what I think of this book. It took awhile to get into and understand each character. While this book kept me listening because I wanted to know what was going on, I was rather disturbed when I did finally understand. I agree with the other review that says "makes you think."

I had to read this book for a grad class. I love this story. It's a lovely and complicated coming of age novel. It has all the characteristics of a great story, humor, tragedy, love, and a good message for the listener/reader to come away with. The narrator does a nice job and I'm glad I listened to it instead of read the book.
