I usually enjoy Laura Lippman's books but this one was a bit of a dud because the main character was so self righteous and unlikeable. The other family members weren't any better and the ending just kind of fizzles out.

I have read most of Mary Kay Andres books and enjoyed them, but I found the plot in this one to be overly complicated. The missing woman plot just seemed tacked on and didn't add much. Also-too much social commentary. I was expecting light romance and fun and I got a bunch of social commentary.

Couldn't finish this. There was no coherence to the story-just layers of mystery and atmosphere with no real plot. The characters had no depth. I usually don't bail on my selections but I did on this one.

From the description this sounded interesting, but I didn't realize it really was science fiction. I don't usually read science fiction, so it has to be very well done for me to like it, but this was just tedious and silly. The narration was good which was probably why I stuck it out to the end in the vain hope it would get better.

Had high hopes for this but it was just ridiculous and sappy to boot. I couldn't identify with the characters and the motivations seemed muddled.

Best mystery I have listened to in a long time. I couldn't predict the ending which is great. I hate those books where you see the final solution a mile away.

One of the best in the series. Tight plot with an ingenious historical background-narration superb as always.

I usually enjoy this author but not this book. The main character was annoying and for a lawyer not too bright. . Also too much sickly sweet stuff about the sainthood of single motherhood..

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A copy cat story-nothing original or interesting. I persisted hoping it would get better but it never did.

Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Mangan again?

The performance was ok-but the story was so unoriginal that even a good performance couldn't make it better.

Chet & Bernie are a great pair-a nice light fun listen. Narration is superb. I've listened to all in the series .
