Preet Bharara has a true winner with Doing Justice. He demonstrates all his smarts, compassion, insights, experience with the law, and the teacher within. I found this book completely captivating, educational and inspiring. His narration is natural & like Preet is in the room speaking to you on a personal level. Well well done Preet. I highly recommend Doing Justice to all.

When a peculiar letter arrives inviting Armand Gamache to an abandoned farmhouse, the former head of the Sûreté du Québec discovers that a complete stranger has named him one of the executors of her will. Still on suspension, and frankly curious, Gamache accepts and soon learns that the other two executors are Myrna Landers, the bookseller from Three Pines, and a young builder. None of them had ever met the elderly woman. The will is so odd and includes bequests that are so wildly unlikely that Gamache and the others suspect the woman must have been delusional. But what if, Gamache begins to ask himself, she was perfectly sane?

When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Waterhouse leads a quiet, ordered life as a retired police detective - a life that takes a surprising turn when she encounters Kelly Cross, a habitual offender, dragging a young child through town. Both appear miserable and better off without each other-or so decides Tracy, in a snap decision that surprises herself as much as Kelly. Suddenly burdened with a small child, Tracy soon learns her parental inexperience is actually the least of her problems, as much larger ones loom for her and her young charge.

I try to avoid being negative, but am very disappointed with the 2nd Logan McRea novel. My problem comes from the language which seems to be one long run of curses and constant use of the "F" word. There may be people somewhere who talk like this, but I have never met any of them. It just distracts from the story when every sentence of dialogue is loaded with foul language.
Sadly I think I am finished with Logan McRae. There are too many other novels to choose from.
