This 15 hour book, felt like 40 hours. Way way too much self talking and meaningless dialogue. The story is sort of interesting, but the whole book could have been 4 hours tops. If you know James Lee Burke, you know he also uses a lot of words, but they are purposely descriptive and beautiful. This is words for words sake. Long self-descriptive feelings of each character.

On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

If you like the concept of Revenge. Read this book.Great hero and a group of bad guys. The narrator was terrific. The characters really come alive. For those of you that have read the Gray Man series, there is a bit of him in the hero of this novel. I was sadly disappointed when it came to an end and really disappointed to find out this is the only book by this author.

Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before. A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again. He was right.

Starts out just a little slow and you wonder why someone recommended it. Then the plot builds in complexity and you become totally engaged and cannot wait to find out how it ends. Reader is terrific. I was late to work sitting in the garage listening to the ending. In its own way as good as any Lee Child or Michael Connelly book.

Good legal thriller. I divide this book into quarters. After the first quarter I was going to stop reading i. The second and third quarters of the book were good and I was anxious to find out how it would turn out. I felt the ending wrapped up and came too quickly. I have felt his in a number of books where I get the idea that the publisher is pressing the author to finish the book, so it is wrapped up quickly - too quickly.

This is an unbelievable book. Terrific story, just when you think things are over there is new twist. The narrator is great on par with Scott Brick, Will Patton, etc this had you right up to the end. The detective in this book is a hard-a** Harry Bosch type with an edge to him, not quite Jack Reacher but almost. I was so sad that it was only 9 hours and really sad that I could not find another book by this author. Interestingly, if you search for books under the narrator's name you will find that most are > 4.2 stars.

bottom line - Get this book you will not be disappointed.

To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

I have read most of the Lee Child, John Sanford, Harlan Coben books and none of those books tops this story. Normally books take an hour or more to get you excited. This story grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. There are multiple twists and turns to the story that keep you on the edge of your seat. The narrator, Scott Brick is at his best. If you can't deal with a high anxiety book - wondering what is going to happen. This may not be for you - But for all the rest - download this book - you will not be disappointed.
